POSITION PURPOSE


Reporting to the Program Manager, Departmental Communications is responsible for researching, developing, implementing, coordinating, education, outreach and engagement strategies or communication strategies that promote and enhance Environmental programs and services; monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of such strategies and supporting community outreach, public relations and consultation for the Region and on behalf of its local municipalities.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works in partnership with Department branches to develop work plans, budgets, timelines, goals and objectives for new and ongoing applicable projects and/or programs.
  • Contributes to the Department's communications effectiveness by identifying shortterm and longrange issues that may require attention; developing communications plans, providing information, recommending options and/or courses of action and implementing the selected option.
  • Provides input to the development of for environmental initiatives under the guidance of management.
  • Researches and monitors best practices and public opinions, to effectively promote programs, through journals, research, conferences, seminars and discussions with stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains applicable metrics to monitor, evaluate and report on plan/strategy performance; makes recommendations to ensure operational performance.
  • Develops and maintains a process to track program effectiveness.
  • Identifies best practices and develops performance indicators for Regional programs, services and practices.
  • Works with municipalities, contractors, consultants, businesses, residents, agencies and other stakeholders to develop new program specific strategies, processes and procedures and makes recommendations to management.
  • Develops, organizes and makes presentations on and prepares environmental displays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a University Degree in Environmental Studies, Applied Science, Marketing or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of demonstrated project management experience in any or all aspects of outreach, marketing or communications.
  • Thorough knowledge of marketing and communications and related practices and policies.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
