Job Summary:

This role reports to the Supervisor, Housekeeping & Laundry, providing laundry services to the residents living in the home.

This includes washing soiled articles, ordering laundry supplies when needed, cleaning laundry equipment and informing the Supervisor of any issues.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Sort soiled linen/articles.
  • Weigh articles and documents results.
  • Wash soiled articles.
  • Dry laundered articles.
  • Hang/fold laundered articles.
  • Press items as required.
  • Perform minor mending.
  • Deliver wagons to resident home areas and distributes articles appropriately.
  • Differentiate between "dry clean" and water wash articles.
  • Update resident/number lists.
  • Document missing and found actions/returns from linen service.
  • Order laundry chemicals/supplies.
  • Monitor and confirms daily linen quotas.
  • Respond to the customer/client enquiries.
  • Label personal effects of residents.
  • Clean laundry equipment/area.
  • Respond to priorities/emergencies.
  • Inform Supervisor of any issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications:


Essential

  • Possess a secondary school diploma and the ability to operate laundry equipment and prioritize tasks.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work both in a team and independently are required.
  • Must have an understanding of the Residents' Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
  • A general knowledge and understanding of workplace safety and basic computer skills are also required.

Preferred

  • Previous experience as a laundry worker.

Working Conditions

  • The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting approximately 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment and boxes.

  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening by the first day of employment.
  • Current twostep tuberculosis test (obtained within the past six (6) months) by the first day of employment.
