JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties:

BC Hydro's Generation Stations Civil Engineering (GSCE) Geotechnical Team C, based in
Vernon, BC, has openings for three Geological Engineering students interested in participating in
major drilling investigations of two very large (> 500M cubic metre), ancient landslides located in
the Revelstoke area. The work will consist of roughly one month of office preparatory work
located in Vernon, two months of drilling based in Revelstoke and two to three months of drilling
based in Mica Creek, with the remainder of the second term in Vernon working on documentation.

The successful applicants will gain once-in-a-career experience drilling up to 350 m deep diamond
drillholes through slow moving landslides for exploratory purposes and to install inclinometers and
nested standpipe piezometers. The students will be an integral part of the engineering team in the
field, observing drilling operations, overseeing in-situ testing, documenting drilling activities and
logging geomechanical properties of drill core. Between periods of active drilling the students will
assist senior geological engineering personnel with geological logging, core photography, field
testing (e.g. point load testing) and preparation of drillhole logs.

BC Hydro is passionate about the learning opportunity these landslide projects represent, with
resources in place to surround developing members with experienced engineering personnel to
promote individual development.
