Purchasing Supervisor, Steel

Position Summary:

The position will report directly to the Purchasing Manager with responsibilities of supporting departmental goals and global procurement initiatives.
Key focus being on the Steel Commodity by Supervising and Managing the current Steel Spend Commodity. The objective is to maximize our global leveraging, cost reduction opportunities and waste elimination.

Position will include a lead role in Purchasing and Sourcing for localization of Skyjack manufacturing on a Global scale and Industrial Segment Group.


Performance Expectations:


  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements
  • Leading Steel buyers' team in developing, proposing and deploying strategies and initiatives to meet and exceed targets
  • Lead Steel Purchasing commodity and crossfunctional teams on a variety of tasks/projects
  • Develop and maintain reports to monitor Purchasing Steel Commodities
  • Understand and interpret Steel commodity trends
  • Monitor and maintain material adjustment mechanisms with suppliers as required
  • Support and maintain department lean initiatives
  • Identify and evaluate new vendors Globally.
  • Support onboarding initiatives of New Suppliers
  • Review and process claims with suppliers
  • Attend project APQPs, project Gate Reviews and Launch (CFLP) meetings, as required and assigned
  • Lead and support Steel Cost savings and Process improvement actions
  • Follow purchasing procedures in place for the purchase of materials
  • Issue and maintain records as required
  • Assist in expediting of orders as required
  • Provide support in planning and achieving cost reduction goals and plan for implementation of initiatives to reach goals of the department
  • Monitor and maintain supplier performance, communicate results, and propose actions as required
  • Perform other duties/projects as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Postsecondary education material management or related field experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint; advanced Excel skills and data analysis an asset
  • Experience using SharePoint would be an asset
  • Experience leading people is essential
  • Support Global Supplier calls as required for different time zone

  • Communicate with coworkers, crossfunctionally, customers and suppliers about operational matters. Negotiate contracts and resolve disputes with suppliers. Negotiate terms with new suppliers and changes to agreements with existing suppliers
  • Possess ability to read and understand engineering drawings with the ability to communicate technical information to suppliers and engineers
  • Engage in continuous learning to keep uptodate information on new products and market trends, and to operate new automated sales and inventory management systems. Learn through daily work experience, by reading trade publications and by talking with coworkers, colleagues, and suppliers
  • Experience with Global Steel/Cast Suppliers and appreciation of cultures
