Job Purpose:


Automation Technician is an integral part of the company's supply and support network, and will be responsible for field activities, together with providing assistance on technical projects relating to programming, installation, commissioning and configuration of MAF Roda automation systems.


This position will be responsible of servicing customers in the ares between St. Catharines, ON, Waterloo, ON, and Simcoe, ON.

Job Responsibilities & Duties:


  • Assist with scope, specification and design of projects and automation solutions.
  • Be involved in installation, commissioning, configuration, service and support of process automation systems.
  • Study and interpret wiring diagrams and CAD drawings
  • Develop and configure networks [Ethernet or Fieldbus]
  • Develop PLC programs and Human Machine Interface [SCADA and simple touchscreen]
  • Project manage install of turnkey automated equipment [order parts, organize and co‐ordinate contractors, liaise internally to define and develop detailed specification of equipment etc.]
  • Analyze client requirements and recommend, price and deliver equipment upgrades and changes
  • Train and assist customers on their new process equipment.
  • Modify equipment operation, parts and techniques, in order to improve efficiency
  • Be responsible for the maintenance, repair and operational efficiency of equipment
  • Program safety controllers to guarantee safe interaction between operators, site staff and machinery.
  • Set up and test tractability devices and process [bare code reader, scales...]
  • Start‐up equipment onsite and fine tune commissioning adjustment to achieve contract requirements.
  • Interface with third party suppliers and contractors
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure all change requests, amendments and resolutions are communicated and actioned to acceptable time frames and details captured in documentation as required, maintaining accurate records and drawings.
  • Monitor and report on the status and progress of work.
  • Coordinate issue resolution.
  • Complete electrical and mechanical jobs as part of the team.
  • Diagnose system problems and repair or replace malfunctioning equipment
  • Troubleshoot problems onsite and remotely.
  • Understand fieldbus as IO‐Link, EtherNet/IP, ASi, DeviceNet, CC‐Link, EtherCAT, CompoBus...
  • Understand computer systems and software [database] and networking [switches, routers...]
  • Work with VSD's PLC's pneumatics and instrumentation
  • Liaise with clients
  • Liaise with all aspects of the company's operation
  • Source materials and place orders with suppliers
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of the company's products
  • Manage teams when required
  • All other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor

Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in industrial and tertiary engineering (Electrical, control, automation) or equivalent qualification combined with relevant work experience gained in the manufacture, installation, configuration or commissioning of special purpose automation and robotic machinery would also be considered.
  • Certification in systems technology, or, substantial work‐related experience. PLC [Omron] and SCADA [Indusoft Web Studio...] programming expertise is essential.
  • Knowledge of CAD environment (AutoCAD 2D) and MS Office is required and training in industrial design.
  • Industrial electrical and mechanical aptitude [NZ Electrical Registration would be an asset]
  • Strong fault finding, diagnostic, troubleshooting, decision making skills and on job experience.
