The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is seeking a permanent full-time Wellness and Abilities Specialist.

This position is accountable to the Manager of Human Resource Services and works with the Employee Safety, Well-Being and Engagement portfolios within the Human Resources (HRS) Department.

The Wellness and Abilities Specialist supports the facilitation and administration of the Board's Disability Management programs, Attendance Support program, the WSIB program and the Health and Safety program and the implementation of proactive and responsive strategies to foster a culture of well-being within the Board, which is aligned with the Board's Multi-Year Strategic Plan.

The Wellness and Abilities Specialist is an integral member of the Human Resource Services team ensuring efficient and timely communication and processing of all disability management and attendance support programs.


Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

Support the facilitation of the Board's attendance support and disability management programs for both occupational (WSIB) and non-occupational illness and/or disabilities including assisting with follow-up, monitoring and tracking claims and costs, and preparing correspondence and documentation such as return to work and work accommodation plans.

Schedule and facilitate return-to-work and accommodation meetings and conduct on-going monitoring of these plans.

Create and administer disability management files in Parklane.

Enter absences into absence tracking software and HRIS.

Administration of leave requiring medical documentation.

Administration of the Long-Term Disability process and completion of Plan Administrator's Statement.

Support WSIB programs.

Generate and prepare reports related to disability management, as required.

Support the grievance/arbitration process by developing disability management case summaries, as required.


Other duties related to the administration of the Disability Management, WSIB, Attendance Support and Health & Safety programs, as required.

A University degree or College diploma in Disability Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, or related field.

Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in Disability Management required.

CHRP designation is considered an asset.

Experience working in a unionized environment with various collective agreements considered an asset.


Working knowledge of relevant legislation, such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA), Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA), Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate expectations and decisions.

Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgement, tact, and discretion.

Team player with demonstrated customer service skills.

Proficient in using Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel) and possess the aptitude for learning additional industry-related software. Previous experience with Parklane is an asset.

Ability to remain flexible, work as part of a team as well as independently.
