Dog Control Dispatch / Pound Keeper:

Do you have exceptional communication, interpersonal, time management and organization skills? Do you have knowledge of RDCO Dog Bylaws and understand dog health and behaviour? If so, we want you on our Community Services Team as a Dog Control Dispatch / Pound Keeper


You will:

  • Receive complaints regarding dogs and dispatch for action to Dog Control Officers and provide any data and background information as well as procedural guidance. Receive dogs for impoundment.
  • Provide care for dogs and assist with cleaning of kennels. Provide humane care and treatment of impounded dogs. Provide dog first aid and arrange for veterinarian care when required.
  • Perform cleaning duties in office and in dog yard to ensure sanitization from contagious diseases.
  • Conduct risk assessment checklists and assist with planning maintenance requirements of pound facility.
  • Perform all office work including:
  • Maintenance of Dog Control records and data entry
  • Processing annual dog licenses
  • Assist with documenting adjudication files
  • Daily bookkeeping, cash handling and reconciliation of fees and bank deposits
  • Performance measures and statistics for reporting purposes
  • Prepare purchase orders and order of Pound supplies
  • Assist the CBEO and DCO's with auditing of files
  • Assist the CBEO with creating and organizing general bylaw files
  • Arrange and schedule fleet vehicles for maintenance
  • Arrange office meetings and training sessions for the CBEO with the DCO's
  • Create operational procedure manuals and assist in drafting new policies
  • Promote public safety and educate and counsel dog owners, complainants and dog bite victims regarding dog regulations and investigation process.
  • Track DCO's, CBEO's and invasive species bylaw officer to ensure officer safety.
  • Assist with field work as DCO. Provide functional direction, training and support to relief employees, Dog Control Officers and other team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.


This is a CUPE 338 position that works Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and pays a rate of $37.67 per hour.
