EDUCATION PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Location:
Grande Prairie - working remotely from your home-office OR Edmonton - working from Inside Education's office.


Inside Education is seeking an enthusiastic, adaptable and talented educator - someone who can spark interest and engage others in learning about Alberta's environment and natural resources.

This position will complement our education program team to support teachers and inspire students with a focus on building networks and program delivery in northwestern Alberta and northeast British Columbia.

Inside Education is Alberta's largest environmental and natural resources education charity.

Our mandate is to support K-12 school teachers and inspire their students when it comes to working towards a balanced, sustainable future for our economy, environment, and society.

For the past 37 years, Inside Education has delivered award-winning educational programs to students and teachers.

Working with partners in government, industry, academia, the environmental sector, and Indigenous communities, our programs engage students in solutions-focused approaches to environmental topics and issues.


Education Program Coordinator:
Roles and Responsibilities


As an Education Program Coordinator, you will be focused on expanding our energy and climate education program, delivering outdoor education programs at the Boreal Wetland Centre in Grande Prairie and building networks in northwestern Alberta and northeastern British Columbia.

A particular focus will be developing community relationships including Indigenous communities.

You will be involved in all aspects of our education programming, including classroom presentations, student field trips, student innovation days, youth summits and teacher professional development programs.


Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Coordination: responsible for the full implementation of the programs including managing program requests, bookings and teacher communications as well as booking guest speakers for events.
  • Delivery: present on a variety of curriculumlinked topics such as energy, forests, water, wetlands, climate change, agriculture and air quality, etc.
  • Networking & Promoting: you will also represent Inside Education at stakeholder meetings, teachers conventions, and other special events local to the region.
  • Evaluation & Reporting: assess and report on the success of education programs and maintain accurate program statistics.
  • Development: collaborate with team members to develop and enhance our education programs to support overall goals & objectives.

Note:
This position requires extensive travel.

Inside Education will provide a travel allowance or rental car, as well as hotel accommodations and daily meal per diem when required.

If you are based in Grande Prairie a personal vehicle is required (mileage allowance provided).


You will be successful in this role if:

  • You are a flexible, resilient and good-natured travel companion. Due to the nature of our work, frequent travel including overnights and evening/weekend overtime is required (time-off-in-lieu provided).
  • You are able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, interact with students of all ages, and take on a variety of assignments.
  • You have a passion for Alberta's natural resource topics and issues.
  • You're a natural at storytelling, creative, and can identify and capitalize on teachable moments.
  • You have an outgoing personality that is comfortable leading groups in outdoor and classroom settings.

Qualifications

  • A postsecondary degree in Education or Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience leading groups, implementing and delivering education programs and working with young people.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an independent, selfdirected environment.
  • Ability to network and maintain relationships.
  • A strong understanding of Alberta's natural resources, along with topics, issues and innovations related to climate change and energy.
  • You must be a safe, experienced driver with a clear abstract. Travel on gravel roads and to rural communities is required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR certificate (Level C). Additional safety training is an asset.

Terms & Compensation

  • This position is on a schoolyear based work term (September-June), and includes a 2 month unpaid leave in July and August. Salary is $45,833 for the 10 months of work and based on a 36.25 hour work week.
  • This position will start on January 16, 2024 or other mutually agreed upon date.
  • The position is based out of your homeoffice in Grande Prairie or our Edmonton office.
  • There are options for flexible work schedules such as reduced weeks or modified work days.
