Your Opportunity:


The incumbent of this position, reporting to the FME Site Director, is a key member of the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) leadership team, supporting, contributing, and promoting the mission, vision, and goals of the site, zone, and AHS.

The key responsibilities and accountabilities of this management role includes managing, coordinating, and implementing the departmental safety and emergency preparedness programs, and managing our UAH 24/7 Operations Center which includes the sites Maintenance Workers IV team.

The Manager is accountable for a significant budget, substantial human and material resources, oversight of contractors, and the policies and practices applicable to the portfolio.

Required to participate in relevant commissioning and new construction design/redesign activities within the UAH site and may be called upon to contribute to committees and initiatives across the Edmonton Zone or Provincially.


Description:


Direct Supervision of Maintenance Workers IV, effectively leading the team providing the facilities 24 hour, 7 days a week operation.

Working with Maintenance Workers IV, the management team, manage the overall operation of the operations center, respond to customer concerns and requests.

Act as Heliport Manager in UAH site and zone sites if required. Authorizes all overtime following the collective agreement guidelines; ensures overtime is only authorized for legitimate purposes. Responsible for maintaining effective and optimal staffing schedules, managing vacations and personal days. Hires, coaches, trains, disciplines, and dismisses unionized staff by following guidelines as per negotiated collective agreements. Hires additional contract and/or casual staff as necessary. Provides staff orientation and work direction. Clearly communicates goals and objectives to all levels of staff.

Establishes and maintains a safe working environment by providing appropriate training, documentation, personal protective equipment, tools and established procedures, and encouraging initiative and leadership in safe work practices.

Completes performance appraisals. Implements the Attendance Awareness Program. Provides coaching/mentoring and development to those directly reporting to ensure appropriate succession planning. Arranges for staff upgrading and training to ensure competencies. Understands and applies collective agreements, experience in a unionized environment.

Provides leadership to all staff by using open communication which gives staff the opportunity for input into decisions that enhance site operations.

Approves payroll time entry for staff.

Models effective conflict resolution skills and effectively resolves any conflicts in a timely and respectful manner to achieve positive and healthy working relationships and workplace environment.

Required Qualifications:


One or more of the following is required: 4 Years University Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering), Bachelor of Science, Public Administration, or other technical relevant discipline recognized equivalent.

Journeyman Certification in a Building Trade. NAIT/SAIT Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical or Civil Technology or other technical relevant discipline recognized equivalent.

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in leadership role in facilities, Industrial/Hospital/Health Care or other relevant and technical setting in Facility Operations and Maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous or current hospital maintenance experience and P. Eng. (Professional Engineering), FMP (Facility Management Professional) or CFM (Certified Facility Manager) certification is considered an asset.
