What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:
- triage, investigate, mitigate and document all reported incidents of threats, harassment, intimidation and/or other security issues or concerns involving justice officials
- acting as a single point of contact, conduct investigative interviews with justice officials and/or the Judiciary and provide security related advice
- where criminal charges are laid, monitor the progress of the case through the courts, acting as a liaison between the justice official, Police and Crown
- conduct physical security inspections and assessments and make suggestions for security enhancements
- develop and deliver security related training and communication materials and presentations
- participate on security related committees
Other Important Information about this role:
- As part of a team, participate in a rotational on-call schedule, and will be required to be available to answer and respond to calls to the JSSO Incident Reporting Line on a 24/7 basis, for one week of a three week on-call cycle
- Must be prepared to travel, on short notice to locations across the province to give effect to the above duties
- Given the unpredictability of security incidents, an increased volume of calls received may result in short deadlines, multiple demands simultaneously from the various stakeholders, and changing priorities
How do I qualify?:
Mandatory:
Technical Knowledge:
- You have demonstrated knowledge of and skills to conduct investigations.
- You have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of security investigation methods and procedures, court proceedings related to criminal prosecutions including the interpretation of the rules of evidence.
- You have knowledge of the concepts in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) or similar security training to conduct security assessments of buildings.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- You can analyze and interpret complex situations and circumstances, conduct assessments of reported security issues.
- You can assess priority threat risks, identify the appropriate protocols and mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and security of justice officials.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- You have demonstrated oral communication, public speaking and interpersonal skills to participate in case conferences and to conduct training sessions and briefings for senior management.
- You have demonstrated written communication skills to accurately document all aspects of the investigation in a timely manner including preparation of investigative notes, incident reports and individualized safety plans.
- You have the ability to quickly assess risk, calmly, effectively and persuasively deescalate the fears and anxieties of the aggrieved justice officials and/or the Judiciary in lowrisk situations.
- You can maintain confidentiality while interacting and consulting with highlevel justice officials and/or the Judiciary with serious and personal security concerns.
Technical Skills:
- You have knowledge of database systems to operate a case management system to develop forms and design regular and adhoc reports.
