CCI is a bridge between the 7,000 immigrants and refugees who come to Ottawa each year and the community. We provide programs and services to help newcomers settle and integrate. We also work in the community to promote the value of a diverse and more welcoming community for all.


Position Summary:


Under the direction of the Manager of the Reception House,
the Housing Liaison Facilitator is responsible to develop working relationships with larger multi-unit For-Profit and Not-For-Profit Housing Providers in the Ottawa region at the senior levels to assist with acquiring safe and affordable housing options for newcomer clients.

Will support the management, planning, and implementation of housing programs and activities to secure affordable accommodation for all newcomer clients and assist reduce gaps and easing access to appropriate housing options for Government Assisted Refugees (GARs).

Main Duties and Responsibilities:


  • The Housing Liaison connects with landlords in person, on the phone and virtually to engage and educate landlords on newcomer housing needs and to build awareness of the Resettlement Assistance Program as a reliable source of quality tenants.
  • Support the management, planning, and implementation of housing programs and activities to enhance housing capacity for refugees in the Ottawa area
  • Assist/develop assessments, facilitations, advocacy, and outreach strategies
  • Identifies the barriers to landlord participation in the program and works to find solutions to eliminate or reduce these barriers;
  • Creates/updates/maintains a database of potential Housing providers in the Ottawa area
  • Determines appropriate housing options, with consideration to location, proximity to necessary community services
  • Review any potential or actual landlord issues/challenges in the various Ottawa areas where newcomer clients are located, and work together with housing partners to mediate, mitigate, and reduce issues
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality when working with the sensitivepersonal client, employee, and contract information;
  • Ensure staff effective communication, access, and utilization of all available resources to maximize efficiency in the provision of services to clients, including information and referral, assessment, and linkage/access to community services
  • Maintain accurate service records and program documentation.
  • Provide activity reports and statistical information as required.
  • Participate in meetings and activities that promote understanding of newcomers.
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers and staff, including other housing workers, to ensure efficient and effective CIC events and activities management.

Other responsibilities:


  • Promote the vision, mission, and activities of CCI.
  • Support the development of new program areas.
  • Collaborate with other departments in training employees and volunteers.
  • May occasionally be required to perform duties not set forth in the job description.

Organizational Relationships:


  • Works under the direct supervision of the Manager of the Reception House
  • Works in close partnership with other counselors providing direct services to clients.
  • Has regular contact with and supports the activities of the volunteer and fundraising programs.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong planning, timemanagement, leadership, and organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple projects and activities in a fastpaced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a high degree of crosscultural competence.
  • Skilled at deescalation, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • High degree of accuracy in data entry.
  • Knowledge of Ottawa's housing real state and community resources
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to promote positive strategies for landlords to accept newcomer clients
  • Demonstrates understanding of the newcomer experience.
  • Familiarity with relevant community programs and resources.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with confidential material and matters.
  • Ability to perform duties independently and with mínimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, culturally diverse workplace.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.

Fluency in English and French is required. Fluency in other languages is an asset.
