Working under the Vice President, Clinical Programs, the Lead Midwife provides midwifery expertise and represents the Midwifery Division within the hospital.
The Lead Midwife supports and oversees the Professional Staff midwives at Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH), Oak Valley Health.The role of the Lead Midwife may change based on the needs of Oak Valley Health and of the Midwifery Division.
The Lead promotes professional, safe, and patient-centered care with responsibilities such as:Assists in planning and setting of priorities for the department in alignment with the hospitals strategic initiatives
Participates in the development and implementation of the HR plan for the department, and assists in the compilation of Impact Analysis where required
Assists in mentoring/orienting new department members regarding current hospital/departmental policies, objectives and rules
Chairs Midwifery Division meetings
Attends department meetings and relevant system-wide or hospital committees as required including
Alongside Midwifery Unit Governance Council
Credentials Committee
PSOC
Childbirth Operations
MSA
Assist Medical Administration with recruitment, credentialing, on-boarding and off-boarding of midwives
Conducts Performance Reviews of Active Professional Staff members
Functions as a resource in regards to clinical practice and quality of care within the department including reviewing iReports and conducting Quality of Care Reviews
Liaises regularly with
Department Chiefs:
Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Anaesthesia
Works closely with the Program Director, Managers and other leadership across Childbirth and Children's Services
Manages the Division funds
Qualifications/Experience:
A general class license and in good standing with the College of Midwives of Ontario
Hospital privileges or eligibility for hospital privileges with the ability to provide clinical services consistent with other members of the division
Clinical and administrative experience with a history of excellence, leadership, team engagement and collaboration at a division, program and organizational level
