Summary:

  • Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of youth struggling with mental health and substance use challenges? We're looking for a dedicated individual to join us as a Youth Peer Support Coordinator.
  • As a vital member of the Foundry Central team, you'll bring your own lived experience of mental illhealth/substance use to provide invaluable support across our network of Foundry centers.
Reporting to the Leader, Program Implementation, your role will include:

Providing peer-based mentoring and leadership skills development to Youth Peer Support Workers

  • Sharing personal stories, successes, and challenges to establish meaningful connections with youth
  • Supporting the planning, development, and evaluation of Youth Peer Support programs
  • Ensuring the youth perspective is at the forefront of all initiatives and services

Qualifications / Skills and Education:
Education


Diploma in Social Services plus completion of a recognized peer support training program and two (2) years' recent related experience working with youth and young adults with mental health and substance use issues or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Lived/living experience with mental illness/substance use and recovery.

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles of recovery and willingness to share their own personal recovery journey.

Knowledge of peer-run programs and understanding of the value of peer/client involvement.


Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and to recognize and respond appropriately to the needs of peers and consumers.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate and co-lead training sessions.

Understanding of social media and its utilization.

Team orientated approach and a commitment to a peer driven process.

Skilled in facilitation and public speaking.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.

Ability to problem-solve and take initiative.

Ability to deal with others effectively and resolve conflict.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Ability to organize work.

Ability to operate related equipment.


Duties and Responsibilities:


In collaboration with the Provincial Peer Support Coordinator, supports Foundry's Youth Peer Support Network (youth peer supporters located at Foundry Centres throughout the province) by utilizing and sharing own lived experience and consumer knowledge while encouraging skill development to enhance the effectiveness of network members and youth leadership across the province; provides peer-based mentoring, leadership skills training, feedback and support.


Supports through creativity and experience the continued development of Foundry centres' Youth Peer Support program by leading the Circle of Peers (Provincial Community of Practice), and mentoring youth peer supporters.


Assists in the sustainability of the Youth Peer Support Training Program by supporting and promoting YPS training across centres, co-leading training, supporting coordination of training events, and supporting modifications to the curriculum.


Works with the Leader and Provincial Peer Support Coordinator by providing input into the operations of Youth Peer Support across the Foundry Network and working with centres in achieving fidelity to the model, and participates in review/revision of guidelines and standards to improve service delivery.


Supports coordination of Foundry's Youth Peer Support Network members by bringing together Network members from across the province and performing duties such as seeking their input and expertise on the development of Foundry centres, virtual care, public awareness campaigns, and related initiatives.


Assists with and provides input to the development of Foundry services and documents/materials by participating in planning, proposal development, and delivery, while acting as a peer-representative and by sharing own consumer knowledge and lived experience of accessing services for mental illness/substance use, to ensure Foundry continues to evolve from a youth/lived experience perspective.
