The administrative team works collaboratively to meet the needs of faculty, sessional instructors, teaching assistants and students.


Under the general direction of the Manager, Finance & Operations, the Academic Counsellor/Undergraduate Program Administrator provides academic advising services to undergraduate students, assisting them in making decisions affecting their academic progress at U of T Mississauga from enrolment through to graduation.

This position assists students with a wide range of academic issues and concerns, including interpretation of University requirements, policies and procedures, selection of courses and programs and meeting degree requirements.

The work of the Academic Counsellor/Undergraduate Program Administrator is accomplished through individual in-person, virtual and electronic interactions, as well as group advising sessions, workshops, webinars and in-person student-focused events, such as Fall/Spring Campus Day, Subject POSt Fair, and Experiential Learning Fair, among other events.


The Academic Counsellor/Undergraduate Program Administrator also provides academic support to the Department of Psychology by assisting with preparing curriculum change documentation and attending Undergraduate Curriculum Review Sessions, course timetabling, attending academic integrity meetings and preparing academic offense documentation for submission to the Academic Integrity Unit.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Advising students on academic matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background.
  • Providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines.
  • Coordinating the recruitment and administration process for Teaching Assistants, Course Instructors, Sessional Lecturers and/or stipend instructors.
  • Coordinating the missed test process including and not limited to hiring invigilators, room bookings and coordinating with students, faculty and staff.
  • Advising on the appropriateness, precedents and process for petitions and appeals, and suggesting alternative course of action as necessary.
  • Developing and maintaining procedures for the administration of academic calendars.
  • Making informed referrals and supporting an individual in distress until referral contact is made.
  • Serving as a resource to others by providing (nonsupervisory) jobrelated guidance.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years related experience advising students on program/course requirements and academic progression.
  • Experience in the administration of University policies and procedures with emphasis on undergraduate program academic guidelines, procedures and policies.
  • Experience supervising a program assistant.
  • Experience monitoring program accounts and resolving financial discrepancies.
  • Experience conducting presentations and/or workshops.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presenting and public speaking.
  • Ability to interact with faculty, students and professional colleagues in a tactful, professional and diplomatic manner.
  • Strong commitment to diversity and the ability to function with sensitivity and respect in a multicultural/international environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to employ tact, discretion and good judgement.
  • Demonstrated organization and timemanagement skills
