The
Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for ensuring the delivery of creative and engaging programs for campers week to week, including supporting group leaders in the creation and delivery of programs tailored to group needs and coordinating camp-wide themes and games.

- *Please note: This position requires living onsite (Sunday-Friday) from approximately June 10th
  • August 24, 2024._

Spring (May-June ) duties will include:

  • Assisting with staff hiring
  • Evaluating and updating program resources
  • In collaboration with the Camp Director, evaluating and updating daily schedule for day camp, bridge camp, and overnight camp programs
  • Completing program materials/equipment inventory
  • Planning themes and events that will add energy and enthusiasm to the weekly camp schedule
  • In collaboration with Community Connections Coordinator, planning "staff summer challenges" to enrich staff work environment throughout the summer season
  • Participating in Resource Team hard and soft skill training
  • Developing personal and program goals and objectives
  • Planning and implementing staff training events
  • Working on site improvement projects

Summer (July-August) duties will include:

  • Keeping recreational equipment in good repair and ordering new equipment as needed in consultation with Camp Director
  • Inventory tracking and equipment repair/replacement in program areas such as the craft cabin and drama room
  • Providing resources and oversight to Unit Leaders to support arrival and departure day programming, chapel, evening program, after campout, and on rainy days
  • Coordinating Unit scheduling for high ropes, low ropes, and campout programs
  • Implementing campwide theme games, staff summer challenges, and special events
  • Ensuring that all activities are inclusive and build up all participants in positive ways
  • Engaging in ongoing staff checkins and coaching
  • Implementing a performance evaluation process established by the Camp Director for all summer staff
  • Collaborating within the Resource Team to contribute to tasks related to office administration, health and wellness, and the LeaderinTraining program
The
Program Coordinator is a member of the senior staff team, called the Resource Team, at camp.

The Resource Team works collaboratively with the Camp Director and Assistant Director to oversee all aspects of the summer camp program.

All team members balance team and individual responsibilities throughout the work term.


All Members of the Resource Team will:

  • Have strong leadership, initiative, organizational, and administrative skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Be able to initiate, support, and encourage spiritual growth of campers and staff
  • Be able to relate well to a variety of ages and demonstrate an ability to mediate, facilitate, and build unity among staff
  • Enjoy working with children and possess relevant soft skills in youth interaction
  • Exhibit commitment to serving campers and staff as per the mission of Canterbury Hills and values of inclusivity, collaboration, celebration of successes, and asking of questions
  • Welcome all and celebrate diversity within Canterbury Hills Camp
  • Have previous experience working in summer camp (preferred), or equivalent experience.
  • Submit a Police Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening by contract start date
  • Obtain Standard First Aid & CPR C Certification by June 30th, 2024

Additional Qualifications considered an asset:


  • NL (National Lifeguard) certification


  • Challenge Course Certification

  • ACCT Level 1 or
  • Valid G class drivers license
  • Ontario Food Handlers Certificate

  • Resource Team Work Begins: Monday April 29th
  • Resource Team Move In: June 10th (To Be Confirmed)
  • May Staff Training Weekend: May 17th 20th
  • Head Unit Leader Training: June 17th 25th
  • Staff Training Week: June 26th to July 5th
  • Camp sessions begin: Sunday July 7th
  • 7 weeks of camp sessions through July and August
  • Camp sessions end: Friday August 23rd
  • Staff cleanup, debrief, and celebration: Saturday August 24th
  • Optional Contract Extension: August 26th 30th
