Pay Level Pay Level 07 with Degree
Pay Level 06 without Degree

In a Catholic environment that fosters collegiality and supports continuous learning, the School Support Specialist is a liaison between the school, students' homes and the community to promote optimal social-emotional wellness and success for students.


Required Duties and Responsibilities:

Without restricting the generality of the above-stated basic function, the School Support Specialist shall perform such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned including but not restricted to the following:

Primary Duties Student Related Support

  • Work collegially with teachers/administration/professional colleagues to provide school level student support
  • Provide all students and their families with support for attendance, reducing barriers to academics and all related areas on the path to graduation, as per Provincial Educational
Plan (PEP).

  • Assist in the collect and analyzation of student data (OurSchool Data, Help Me Tell Them from Me, Help Me Tell My Story)
  • Plan, Develop and utilize preventative strategies to support students and families using the
OurSchool data and other identified needs within individual communities

  • Provide support for students struggling to cope with personal and psychological issues affecting their school performance, behavior and socialization
  • Provide crisis intervention support (examples include but not limited to suicide ideation, self
- harm, safety, abuse, neglect)

  • Address issues relevant to the student population specific to the LIP through one on one, classroom or schoolwide initiatives in consultation with administration
  • Maintain case files and reports to track student challenges and progress and to recognize patterns in behavior
  • Collaborate with teachers and administration to facilitate successful transitions for students:
Pre-K - Kindergarten and grade 8 to high school

  • If required, coordinate transitions of students to and from home school and alternate school settings
  • Collaborate with RCSD TRiP Advisor as needed
Family Related Support

  • Support the learning program by identifying the social and emotional needs of students/families (i.e. parent education and family literacy)
  • Engage family members or other involved professionals into team meetings to help address any identified needs
  • Assist in the organization and development of a CSCC Catholic School Community Council and participate as required in monthly meetings
  • Provide information for outside support services of agencies to help students and their families
  • Organize the planning and delivery of school hamper or related programs in collaboration with administration

Professional Responsibilities

  • Provide referrals to outside agencies when appropriate
  • Follow the Duty to Report mandate from the Government of Saskatchewan regarding disclosures of emotional, physical, sexual abuse and neglect
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with caregivers, teachers, administrators and outside agencies
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Be involved as required a member of schoolbased teams
  • Be familiar with the school division Administrative Applications as applicable to role
  • Participate in School Divisionsponsored professional development activities
  • Other duties pertaining to school and student support as assigned by the Principal

In addition to the Duties and Responsibilities, the School Support Specialist is expected to have the following requirements:

Confidentiality At no time should the employee discuss publicly or release information pertaining to students and employees of the Regina Catholic School Division or any intrinsic information obtained from the said position. Any breach of confidentiality in this regard is a serious violation of acceptable professional conduct.

Level Required secondary education. Minimum of 2 years of experience in social work, health care, justice, counselling and/or addictions is preferred.
