WHAT THE POSITION IS:


We are looking for an Investigations Officer to contribute to our fair, effective, and proactive operations by providing support to the Investigations team relating to ongoing illegal building investigations.

The Investigations Officer acts as the
first point of contact for illegal building complaints, including
gathering information (including past conduct),
conducting records checks, and
conducting interviews of complainants.

The Investigations Officer will
attend court to swear to court documents, liaison with external prosecutors, and
provide support to legal counsel in preparation of investigation files.


WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:


It is important that you will be able to understand the theories, principles, and standards and practices of the investigation process.

You will need to be capable of learning and adapting in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

To thrive in the role, you will need to have experience working with legislation/regulations in a regulatory environment as well as familiarity with or ability to learn related legislation such as the New Home Construction Licensing Act, 2017 and related regulations such as Ontario Building Code Regulation under the Building Code Act, 1992., Criminal Code, Canada Evidence Act and Provincial Offences Act, Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act.

Having good information research aptitude, high-level of self-direction and initiative, strong records management skills, excellent computer skills and knowledge of proceedings in administrative hearings will enable you to hit the ground running and be successful quickly in this role.

Those who have been successful at HCRA are detail oriented with strong organizational skills and self-motivated.

Driven individuals with strong communication and conflict resolution skills are critical as stakeholder experience, problem solving, and continuous communication is crucial in our day-to-day operations.

The ability to handle multiple simultaneous activities on tight deadlines is a reality and being motivated by providing a fair, safe and effective regulation operation is a key indicator that our organization may be for you.
