Summary of positionThe Captain is responsible for sourcing and securing placements that align with learning objectives of the program.
This includes locating new practicum sites, developing and fostering relationships with long term care and home care organizations, coordinating practicum paperwork and preparing students to make the exciting transition from classroom learning to hands-on experience.
The Captain will be the first point of contact for students as well as LTC facilities with matters related to Skills Development 1 and 2, students' 16 hour work and earn, and mentorship.
The Captain will communicate effectively with students and LTC sites ensuring all necessary information is delivered in a timely manner.
The Captain will set up lab sites as needed and conduct site visits for quality assurance. The Captain will update Nova regularly to ensure placement information is accurate. The Captain will work closely with college management to foster student success and a positive student experience.Duties
- Develop external relationships to ensure students have the opportunity for placements (16 hour learn and earn, skills development, mentorship)
- Communicate regularly and effectively with LTC and home care organizations Contribute to and monitor the quality of the student experience
- Address student concerns while on placement
- Coach and support students
- Support the administrative functions of the campus to enhance the student experience
- Student file management in Nova
- Monitor vaccination requirements
- Conduct site visits
- Lab setup
- Act as a substitute instructor as needed
- Maintain active nursing license
- Other duties as assigned
- Travel required, must have reliable transportation
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to type 40wpm with accuracy
- Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to multitask
- Detail oriented with excellent administrative skills
- Customer focused with a commitment to providing quality service
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to work with a diverse population
Qualifications:
- LPN or RN with active nursing license
- A minimum of 3 years experience in the health care sector
- Experience in long term care or home care considered an asset
- Office experience in a serviceoriented environment considered an asset
- Experience in a private postsecondary environment considered an asset
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

$58,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
