    This is varied and moderately complex clerical work requiring considerable knowledge of applicable departmental functions, procedures, and policies.

    The Watch Clerk reviews files and records; maintains, updates, validates and controls same in accordance with established rules, regulations, policies and procedures; enters and/or corrects discrepancies that are clearly evident or returns file to police members for additional required information.

    Modifies or corrects data in various police record management systems as required; retrieves and verifies PRIME and Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) information entered by other staff; reviews such files for adherence to operational reporting system rules and regulations.

    Responds to requests for information from field units by using CPIC and other information sources; receives and transmits messages via the CAD and PRIME terminal and makes general broadcasts as appropriate.

    Liaises and consults with various external agencies including police departments, Court, Mental Health, Corrections and Motor Vehicle Branch. Provides orientation and guidance to civilian staff and police members regarding standards and procedures. Performs related work as required.


    Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by courses related to the work and considerable related experience in a Police Department; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

    Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures applicable to maintenance of Police occurrence files and records.

    Sound knowledge of methods, practices and procedures used in operating current data systems terminals, specializing in single or multiple systems, as required.

    Working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada and other applicable Federal and Provincial Statutes as they relate to the work performed.

    Ability to ensure that departmental files and records are maintained in accordance with established rules, regulations, policies and procedures and to perform notification when file is deficient or to make corrections as required.

    Ability to operate computer and other office equipment, to prepare, process and maintain a variety of files, records and reports and to perform related clerical work.

    Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise initiative. Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required. The incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.


    Schedule: 75 hours bi-weekly; A work period (cycle) will consist of two (2) consecutive days on, followed by two (2) consecutive nights on, followed by four (4) days off.

    The rotational shift schedule is 6 AM to 6 PM (2 consecutive days) and 6 PM to 6 AM (2 consecutive nights).

    Subject to Note 'O' of Schedule 'B' of the CUPE 23 Inside Division Collective Agreement and Subject to the Memorandum of Understanding dated October 5, 2010.
