Job Description for School Leader


We are seeking a highly motivated school leader who is eager to be the head of an established private elementary school in Woodstock, ON with a mission to inspire and educate lifelong learners through a cooperative learning community.

Our school encompasses a vast age range from Reggio Emilia to Grade 8; ages 3-14.

Our school leader must be able to oversee all aspects of a thriving private school, willing to work without supervision and eager to do what is in the best interest of the students while keeping the school mission in mind.


Join our staff lead a team of highly dedicated teachers and support staff in providing the best educational experience for our students.

Our leader will guide teachers in creating a safe and effective environment for student growth and development, conduct periodic evaluations to identify areas that need improvement while ensuring that every teacher has the resources they need to meet the school's curriculum requirements.


Line of Authority

  • Directly reports to the school's board of directors.

Supervision of others

  • Direct supervision over teaching staff, administrative, maintenance and kitchen staff.

- implement, evaluate and report the school's goals and objectives
- uphold our school's educational policies and integrate the school's common core guidelines and philosophy into the school curriculum and daily activities.
- create a positive school culture in which students reach their full potential and where parents feel welcomed and involved
- collaborate with teachers, parents and students to provide the best education for each student and assist them in their academic and personal goals.
- maintain a positive school/community climate and a safe and healthy environment; and
- encourage teachers and pupils to perform to the best of their ability.
- plan, implement, and evaluate the school instructional program based on student needs and within provincial guidelines;
- evaluate current instructional systems to improve student learning strategies, modify if necessary
- implement established guidelines for educational programs, standards, and regulations
- compile and prepare all student achievement outcomes;
- supervise and coordinate School-wide programs, curricula, and course options
- review teacher lesson plans and instruction to ensure correlation with provincial curriculum
- coordinate and supervise the testing and assessment program; and
- ensure that all academic components of the school's charter are being met.


Faculty and Staff -To effectively lead the faculty and staff, they must:

  • determine staffing needs
- advise teachers on how to improve teaching techniques and instructional materials
- coordinate and conduct the interview process and make hiring and termination decisions for all staff
- participate in training and other employment activities for teachers and other staff members to create a dynamite team
- supervise all staff
- coordinate, supervise, and conduct the evaluations of all staff; and
- develop and supervise new teacher programs


School Environment and Facilities Management - To effectively manage the facilities and the school environment, they must:

  • supervise all students;
- implement and enforce attendance and tardy policies and procedures for all students;
- enforce the discipline plan and assist teachers with all concerns and issues related to student behavior;
- develop and implement school rules and regulations;
- plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate all non-academic programs, (i.e., athletics, extra-curricular, co-curricular)
- plan and participate in special events; and
- assume responsibility for the buildings, grounds, equipment and supplies of the school; supervise the work of the custodians and maintenance staff, reporting to the governing board the conditions and needs of the school.


Finances - To provide sound fiscal leadership, they must:

  • supervise and coordinate the budgetary process;
- ensure that the School is operating within the set budget; and
- oversee the proper financial record keeping processes and maintain inventory control of all School resources.


Public Relations - To champion the mission and vision of the School within the School community and the community at large, they must:

  • recruit students and faculty for the school as needed;
- facilitate frequent communication to the parents of the School community;
- interpret the educational program of the School and School system to the community;
- establish business partnerships and positive relationships with community leaders; and
- initiate fundraising activities.
