    Description

    Job Number: 49557 Join the Development Services Branch at the City of Edmonton as a Project Engineer to ensure the review and approval of Private development engineering drawing submissions have adequate transportation infrastructure servicing that meets the expected service level in Edmonton as well as conforming with relevant standards such as Complete Streets Design and Construction Standards.

    In our Development Engineering and Drawing Review unit(DEDR), you will be required to use theoretical and practical technical knowledge to review developer funded arterial roadway designs and subdivisions detailed engineering designs, in combination with operations and maintenance impacts while ascertaining the costs are reasonable and not a prohibitive burden to the City and tax/ratepayers.

    Overall, you will support the City Plan and the City's goal of orderly and environmentally friendly urban growth and reflect the City's cooperative partnership with the development industry.

    With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
    Provide quality review of engineering drawings(concepts, preliminary and detailed plans) submitted by external design consultants and City Departments
    Completion of drawing reviews on time and with a high degree of accuracy while ascertaining they meet City of Edmonton Complete Streets Design and Construction Standards, City bylaws, Subdivision requirements, Development permit conditions, City policies and Provincial Acts/regulations, Transportation Association of Canada(TAC) Highway Geometric Design Guide, City of Edmonton and other applicable standards and guidelines
    Recommend approval of drawings when City requirements are met prior to formal approval by Senior Engineer or General Supervisor
    Attend internal and external meetings to evaluate or communicate solutions to design challenges raised by developers and engineering consultants while also explaining design comments made on For Approval drawings
    Provide oral or written direction to consultants regarding engineering design standard clauses or details that are unclear as part of the drawing approval process
    Provide feedback on City of Edmonton engineering design standards that require revisions due to challenges experienced during drawings review
    Conduct site visits and field reviews of engineering design drawing submissions to ensure accuracy with field conditions or identify transportation conflicts between existing, proposed and future designs
    Respond to inquiries from consultants, developers and citizens by assessing city standards, policies and providing further investigations and response as required
    Collaborate with internal stakeholders, and senior management in implementation of city standards, policies, bylaws and supporting other internal agencies by providing input / technical support
    Provide general support in Development Engineering and Drawing Review (DEDR) unit's business operations
    Perform related duties as required


    Qualifications:
    A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering
    Must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing and registered with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to commencement of employment
    Minimum of 4 years progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following areas:
    Transportation Planning
    Roadway Design, and /or
    Land Use Planning
    Familiarity with the Land Development process in Edmonton from development of statutory plans to zoning and subdivision would be an asset
    Attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple assignments with minimal supervision while meeting timelines and completing work
    Strong verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to present ideas and recommendations and gain consensus
    Proficiency working within a Google Workspace environment
    Experience in other municipal engineering disciplines such as drainage would be considered an asset
    Experience presenting to the public and comfortable with public speaking
    Self motivated and highly responsive to inquiries in a timely manner
    Team player, demonstrated ability to lead, coach and inspire teammates and to act as a change agent
    Excellent ability to prioritize tasks, organize and coordinate multiple concurrent projects and manage resources, including human, financial and other resources
    Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent).
