Description

The Shift Performance Manager is responsible to manage the overall performance and optimization of our kraft pulping operation that includes the Digester, Bleach Plant, Pulp Machines and Warehouse areas.

Key Responsibilities

Work directly with crews to maintain adherence to safe work procedures supporting Celgar's world class safety values & beliefs.
Provide leadership and support that will foster and fortify the success of the crew.

Build an engaged, energetic, well performing team through involvement and collaboration; ensuring a high level of morale is maintained among the workforce through a passionate belief in and adherence to employee involvement as a principle of success.

Monitor shift and departmental KPI's and empower crew to implement improvements.
Maintain operating standards that are consistent with and support Mercer Celgar's Safety and Environmental policies, guidelines and performance.

Ensure company quality, efficiency and production objectives are achieved and sustained by providing operational/technical expertise and establishing or adjusting work procedures.

Promote employee development through coaching and regular feedback.
Facilitate and assist in problem solving and troubleshooting discussions for departmental issues.
Accountable for training and development of crew to maintain and enhance existing skills and develop new skills.

Working closely with the Mill Manufacturing Day Teams, participate in the daily, weekly and long-term planning processes to ensure the department is maintained in a reliable manner and in compliance with all regulations.

Education and Experience


A minimum of 5 years of related experience in positions of increasing responsibility in a pulp mill or similar industrial operation.

Post-secondary education in engineering/sciences and/or equivalent industry-related experience.
Supervisory and leadership experience, including leadership in a unionized environment.
Technical knowledge and experience in alkaline pulping, chemical bleaching and pulp drying.
A technical degree and/or the Pulp and Paper Program Certificate will be considered an asset to this position.
