What we offer
This is a new and exciting opportunity for a People & Culture Specialist to join our team.

The People & Culture Specialist will advise and support designated client groups in our GTA Divisions on Human Resources strategies and programs aligned to enable the business to achieve its goals.

This is a hands-on role with full spectrum generalist responsibilities ranging from managing the labour relations for our GTA site staff to end-to-end support for employees on all Human Resources matters, with a focus on construction and warranty operations.

This role will also be involved in and contribute to corporate Human Resources initiatives and projects as required.


What you'll do

  • Function as the first point of contact for the Construction and Warranty Teams in GTA (both our Low Rise and Urban Divisions) on HR matters; manage and provide services in employee relations, talent acquisition, workforce planning, performance management, talent management and development.
  • Be knowledgeable of collective agreement language, ensuring adherence to collective agreement terms, legislation and corporate policies.
  • Provide labour and employee relations training and consulting to managers, and other supervisory personnel.
  • Assist managers with grievances and, if necessary, attend labour management meetings for more complex issues.
  • Promote and coach managers and employees on HR programs, policies, and processes
  • Support the annual processes for performance management, compensation, and talent review
  • With strong understanding and experience of employment legislation, lead the prompt resolution of employee relations issues and initiate proactive measures to minimize related matters
  • Build trust and credibility with all employee groups to create a safe, supportive, and open environment
  • Active participation/support in the corporate HR responsibilities for organizational development projects and specific corporate accountabilities.
  • Participate as a member of the larger HR team in pursuing assigned accountabilities and team projects
  • Maintain reporting tools and techniques to capture and report on metrics related to HR areas
  • Remain current in market trends, legislation, and best practices to continue to keep Mattamy diligent in the best employee experience and initiate novel approaches where appropriate.

  • 3+ years progressive experience in a related position
  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business, or Related Discipline
  • Experience and ability to work effectively in diverse environments including corporate and operations
  • Ability to establish credibility, trust and build relationships with people of all levels of an organization
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strategic mindset with practical orientation
  • High service level orientation
  • Proven ability to work in a fastpaced environment
  • Positive attitude, responsive and action oriented
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong HR software skills and MS Office
  • Ability to travel to sites within the Greater Toronto Area as required

  • Experience working with LiUNA (Laborers' International Union of North America)
  • CHRP/CHRL designation
  • Experience in a multisite environment
