About the role:

The Category Manager (CM) is responsible for the management of the assigned category of products including profitability, sales, advertising, category planning, supplier negotiations, product selection, and customer service across all core brands in the portfolio and methods of operation.

The CM, using marketplace data and consumer insights, designs and develops strategies for delivering plans and programs to maximize category profitability in response to market needs and demand.

The CM manages products, assortments, promotions, and vendor relationships, to deliver margin growth and profitable non-fuels income.

Key activities:

Vendor Management:

Select vendors, negotiate contracts, control costs, reduce vendorrelated risks and ensure service delivery.

Financials:

Maximize financial growth while balancing consumer needs, retailer business opportunity and overall revenue objectives.

Planograms and Layouts:

Develop store layouts as well as category planograms to bring consistency to offers, enhance consumer experience, and maximize sales.

Annual Promotional Process:

Assist in developing a calendar for product promotions in conjunction with suppliers.

Category Management:

Execute a disciplined approach to managing categories throughout the retail portfolio.
Understand industry trends to adjust store offering and maintain channel relevance.

Operations Support:

Work directly with the Operations team to assist in program and planogram execution as well as program development to enhance growth.

Backoffice System Management:

Ensure the Pricebook is maintained and accurate for assigned categories, respond to Operations' inquiries, and maintain relationship with vendor(s).

Skills/attributes desired:

Proven experience (35 years) as a Category Manager in Gas & Convenience or a similar industry.
Solid knowledge of category management, marketing, and sales principles.
Skilled in data analysis and forecasting methods.
Proficient in MS Office.
Analytical mind with a strategic ability.
Excellent communication and people skills.
BSc/BA in Business Administration, Marketing or in a related field.
