Description

The Parks and Facility Operator delivers superior service to the public through the front-line operation of recreational facilities and related equipment.

The Operator ensures the highest of standards at all Township-owned community centre and recreation facilities by performing maintenance and custodial duties, ensuring the safety and security of facilities and completing all required documentation while operating in a team environment to accomplish positive customer experiences.


Core Responsibilities:


  • Interfaces with the public in a professional, positive manner, providing information, guidance and works to achieve good public relations to encourage proper use of facilities and ensure strong working relationships;
  • Operates and maintains the facility refrigeration plant and boiler systems, heating and ventilation systems, and all related mechanical equipment in compliance with relevant legislative acts and regulations;
  • Performs general labour, maintenance and repair activities on municipal recreational facilities and lands to the highest of standards, including, parks, trails, pools, and fields (eg. ice, turf and pool maintenance, compressor readings, snow and ice removal, landscaping, wash and strip floors, wash windows and doors, clean washrooms, change rooms, litter removal);
  • Operates all arena, pool and facilities equipment, including ice resurfacer, tractors, etc. and performs maintenance and minor repairs of heating, electrical, plumbing, lighting and cleaning equipment;
  • In consultation with leadership, determines the need for skilled trades people to attend facility to manage malfunction and servicing;
  • Coordinates with recreation team to schedules parties, events and tournaments for ice, facilities, pools, pavilions and playing fields for regular and onetime rentals;
  • Cash handling responsibilities, including vending machines, petty cash and user payments, floats, balancing daily receipts and conducting bank deposits;
  • Completes administrative duties in a timely manner (eg. attendance, incident/accident reports, opening and closing procedures, facility inspection reports, log books and communicates status with other employees);
  • Facility preparation and facilitation of events, including setup/cleanup, the coordination of crowd control during onice activities and large events, ensures proper security measures are maintained at all assigned facilities, and ensures all regulatory requirements are followed related to the sale and handling of alcohol;
  • Maintain a safe and tidy work environment ensuring equipment is stored appropriately;
  • Complete supply inventory and seek authorization for the purchase of supplies;
  • Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow up and appropriate action;
  • Follows preventative maintenance plans, pursues work requests and monitors building systems reporting concerns to supervisor;
  • Open and close building, ensuring that alarms are properly set and doors are secured;
  • Liaise with leadership to support and deliver staff training/orientation and mentorship;
  • Maintains an understanding of department programs and services;
  • Takes part in meetings/training and emergency plan for facility;
  • Ensures compliance with and performs all duties in accordance with Provincial Legislation and related Regulations as well as municipal policies, procedures and guidelines. Models and endorses a culture of safe work practices;
  • Available to work rotating shifts including evenings and weekends at various recreation sites throughout the Township.
  • Undertakes special projects and performs all other related duties as assigned.
  • 24 years' experience in arena services, building maintenance and repair.
  • Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Computer proficiency and exposure to CLASS or similar Recreation Management system.
  • Knowledge and experience in Arena and ice making operations, swimming pool operations, general building maintenance and the use of maintenance equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability working with management, other employees, and the public in a courteous and efficient manner that emphasizes customer service.
  • Demonstrated team building skills including interpersonal, communication and problem solving.
  • Strong technical competency to analyze maintenance issues, find solutions and develop sound recommendations and courses of action.
  • Strong conflict management skills with the ability to be professional in handling complaints, disagreements and issues.
  • Ability to adapt, prioritize and multitask with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to clearly document work activities and prepare required reports.
  • Ability to work in varying and extreme weather conditions.
  • Willingness to adapt to new technological changes and improvements.
