SUMMARY
The Energy & Sustainability Manager is responsible for the strategic development and management of energy & sustainability information system processes, analytical activities, day-to-day performance reporting, and the continuing development of Sustainability metrics.
Within the current setting of heightened environmental awareness, this position will be a key driver in formulating and recommending GHG as well as Corporate Social Responsibility reporting guidelines.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and Produce Sustainability Metrics
- Interpret and translate implications of global GHG standards and targets into strategic information processes and actionable facility management metrics;
- Design and develop technical requirements for sustainability and GHG reporting and analysis;
- Guide development of new and enhanced valueadded sustainability and GHG offerings to the facility management marketplace.
Manage Energy & Sustainability Reporting:
- Manage resources and schedule the delivery of internal and external energy and sustainability reports;
- Support the Client Facing Teams with their energy and sustainability reporting needs.
- Develop measurable energy and sustainability Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) jointly with the Client;
- Diagnose energy consumption and cost variances in support of contact accounting teams;
- Manage corporate energy price escalation analysis, develop client utility budgets and provide cost variance explanations;
- Develop, specify and support calculation methodologies that correct for weather sensitivity and seasonality, and establish baseline adjustment techniques to enable proper comparisons in energy consumption to be made over time.
- Provide critical evaluation of inhouse payment reporting and analytical processes, and lead efforts to specify improvements;
- Ensure the integrity of the utility data validation process, including optimization and operational requirements of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) payment system;
- Identify strategies and analytical processes to identify tariff optimization opportunities;
- Establishes Team Member training requirements in understanding utility bill information and resolving utility billing anomalies.
- Lead the transition of clients and accounts under utility management services, including controlling the communication with utility vendors and managing the correct uploading of historic data.
Support Energy Savings and Demand-Side Management:
- Defines processes to identify, assess and prioritize energy savings project opportunities, employing quantitative utility data analysis;
- Develops appropriate computerbased measurement and verification techniques; specifies and develops ongoing monitoring functions of efficiency improvement measures.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Community college diploma in environmental management, environmental science or energy and building system technology
- Expert level analytical and problem solving skills especially as it applies to building energy including weather correction calculations and baseline adjustment, error diagnostics, measurement & verification protocols
- Expert level knowledge of greenhouse gas reporting systems and issues including calculation validity, applicable protocols, inventory and boundary considerations
- Expert level knowledge of units of energy/utility measurement and conversion
- Advanced skills in MS Excel. Strong MS Word skills required. Familiarity with database software is beneficial.
- Expert level ability in developing internal reporting systems, bench marking and target setting
- Advanced knowledge of utility tariff structures and utility bill generation and processing
- Previous experience in energy management, with familiarity in mechanical (HVAC) systems, BAS control, metering and
- Understanding of ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards
- Certified Measurement & Verification Professional from Association of Energy Engineers, an asset
