Our organization:
The Alberta Securities Commission is the industry-funded regulator responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted with fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and with protecting investors.

As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators, the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.


The Enforcement division enforces Alberta securities laws by investigating and prosecuting breaches of those laws with a view to stopping current misconduct and preventing future misconduct.


The opportunity:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working collaboratively with investigators, evidence analysts and other litigation counsel to prepare for and assist in conducting hearings and appeals.
  • Preparing legal memoranda that provide an assessment of and recommendations for each assigned case.
  • Conducting legal research in relation to Enforcement files.
  • Drafting Notices of Hearing, submissions and other documents for administrative proceedings.
  • Conducting and supervising disclosure in accordance with the requisite legal standards.
  • Preparing witnesses for giving testimony.
  • Attempting to resolve matters through settlement negotiations when appropriate.
  • Providing legal advice on securities law issues to all professional members of the ASC.
  • A law degree and be an active member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
  • Two to six plus years of experience practicing law, with a focus on litigation.
  • A proactive, selfmotivated approach with superior analytical ability and sound oral and written advocacy skills.
  • A strong professional work ethic and ability to work both alone and on a collaborative team.
  • Knowledge of corporate/commercial, securities and/or administrative law is an asset.
