This position is presently located at the St. Thomas site.

Under the direction of the Manager, Dental & Vision, the Dental Assistant will deliver oral health programming & services as required by the Ontario Public Health Standards, associated oral health protocols and the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

Assist with Program Assistant back-up and with designated screening and clinical preventive services at schools.

The Dental Assistant assists with community & school-based oral health screening, assessment, preventive treatment & instruction, including health promotion, disease prevention, and program evaluation and planning in order to promote optimal oral care for all St.

Thomas, Elgin, and Oxford County residents. Contributes to raising the awareness of St.

Thomas, Elgin, and Oxford County residents along with providing knowledge of the importance of oral health as it relates to overall health.


Qualifications:


EDUCATION

  • Successful completion of a oneyear Dental Assistant Program from an accredited college
  • Minimum, Level II Intra-Oral Dental Assistant certificate
  • Current registration with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association is preferred
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum one (1) year, current onthejob experience required
  • Knowledge of best practices related to sterilization processes and techniques
  • Experience with children would be an asset
  • Knowledge of legislation (Ontario Public Health Standards)
  • Good command of the English language
SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and those staff they work with (e.g., dental hygienist)
  • Ability to use several computer software programs including Microsoft Office, OHISS, Dentrix etc.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to listen to clients, using tact and discretion, and ability to creatively teach and present to large and small groups of children, teens, seniors, caregivers, and others about good oral hygiene
  • Good keyboarding skills
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage time effectively as well as ensuring maintenance of required records, files, and supplies
  • Ability to acquire resources to be used in job

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Valid Ontario Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Ability to work flexible hours when necessary
  • Current C.P.R. certificate preferred
  • Must comply with the current Ontario Public Health Standards
  • Ability to speak lowGerman an asset
  • Adherence with SWPH's policy and procedures

Immunization Requirements:

Provide documentation you have received two (2) doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, plus at least one booster dose, and acknowledgement to follow Southwestern Public Health's policies and processes related to COVID-19 management in the workplace.
