This position is for an Assembly Technician that is expected to perform difficult hand or machine sheet metal operations to form, fit, fabricate, and repair a variety of complicated developmental aerospace details, parts, assemblies, and related tools.

This position requires a mechanical and technical aptitude and an ability to follow work instructions, while ensuring all functions are performed according to Collins, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), and Quality policies.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Perform complex and somewhat difficult sheet metal fabrication operations to close dimensional tolerances.
  • Work from complicated drawings, sketches, operation sheets, and specifications using standard methods and procedures.
  • Select and adapt tooling, methods, procedures, and operational sequence to form and fabricate aerospace parts and assemblies.
  • Assist other trades in fabricating complex major assemblies involving sheet metal operations or techniques.
  • Use variety of precision measuring instruments to lay out work and verify it meets applicable quality or engineering standards.
  • Carry out other tasks within the scope of this job description to support department objectives and to develop individual skills.
  • Support and participate in continuous improvement activities including 6S and QCPC.
  • Perform all tasks at the highest level of safety awareness.
  • Maintain and follow all tool control policies.
  • Availability to work Overtime as needed.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:


  • Typically requires a HS Diploma with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience. In the absence of a HS Diploma or GED, 3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • 2 years sheet metal fabrication, or a combination of sheet metal fabrication and aerospace experience.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • A&P License and/or 2 years formal trades training preferred.
  • AMOP program and successful completion of the TOWES test preferred.
  • Experience working from complicated drawings, specifications, procedures, and instructions to fabricate and repair a variety of developmental aerospace details, parts, and assemblies.
  • Experience working with various metals including but not limited to titanium, waspalloy, hastalloy, mild and stainless steels, aluminum, and nickel alloys.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications to operate powered industrial vehicles.
