    TITLE: Surveying & GIS Laboratory Technologist

    DIVISION: Centre for Construction & Engineering Technologies

    SALARY: Payband I, starting rate $ per hour

    HOURS: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

    HOURS PER WEEK: 40

    LOCATION: 160 Kendal Avenue

    STATUS: Full Time Support

    Position Summary:

    Under the direction of the Manager, AcademicOperations, the incumbent, sets up, calibrates, and maintains the surveyingequipment and facilities used by the students in surveying field exercises. Inthe GIS/geomatics laboratory, incumbent ensures plotters, computers, scanners,and photogrammetry equipment are in good working condition.

    Key responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates computerized measuring devices, levelling and surveying instruments and computer applications.
  • Demonstrates proper methods for recording field notes and reporting findings.
  • Reinforces concepts and skills introduced by faculty through demonstrations, explanations and/or instructions as required.
  • Onboards part-time faculty with respect to the surveying laboratory.
  • Provides operational advice to faculty on planning and organizing surveying field work assignments experiments and sessions.
  • Assists faculty in evaluating student performance and progress and provides real-time feedback to students in the laboratory.
  • Ensures students follow health and safety policies and protocols regarding PPE and equipment operating procedures.
  • Maintains equipment and facilities in the surveying and geomatics laboratories.
  • Mentors the Surveying and Geomatics Technician.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    • Educational andExperience Requirements:

  • Three-year diploma/degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Surveying Technologist, GIS or Geomatics Technician, Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Geography (with some courses in surveying).
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in topographical and engineering surveying experience with some exposure to cadastral surveying. Construction layouts, levelling, total stations, electronic digital theodolite, GPS equipment, route surveying including circular curves, parabolic curves, spiral curves, and roadway sections, survey, and GIS software.
