    Vice-President, Operations - Lake of the Woods District Hospital

    Nestled in the beautiful , you will find Northwestern Ontario's largest hospital west of Thunder Bay - Lake of the Woods District Hospital (LWDH). LWDH plays an important role in the community, providing many different services to approximately 35,000 residents of Kenora and the surrounding areas, including several First Nations Communities. LWDH, as a member of the , created history by being one of the first 24 Ontario Health Teams and is an active partner in the healthcare transformation occurring in the province. Currently, LWDH are in the process of working in partnership with Kenora Chiefs Advisory to plan and build a new All Nations Hospital, providing existing staff the ability to shape the future of healthcare in Kenora.

    LWDH's mission is to embed its Patient and Family Centred Care philosophy into its operations and into the communities they serve - to help fulfill this mission, LWDH is recruiting for its next Vice-President, Operations.

    Currently in a phase of significant transformation and growth, LWDH is seeking a Vice President of Operations. This role is crucial for driving the organization forward. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of financial acumen, strategic vision, and experience in healthcare operations, particularly in a hospital setting.

    Position Overview:
  • Operational Leadership: Oversee allied health support services, administration, maintenance, properties, and facilities.
  • Strategic Planning and Implementation: Collaborate with the CEO and other executives to develop and execute organizational strategies, focusing on vision and innovation. Develop a project management office to focus on managing key initiatives and tracking KPIs.
  • Financial Management: Collaborate with the finance lead to develop funding strategies and prepare grant and funding requests.
  • Partnership Management: Collaborate with the All Nations Health Partners Ontario team and other partner organizations, focusing on patient care and community health initiatives.
  • Digital Strategy Oversight: Contribute to the digital strategy, aligning software and technology to advance strategic goals.
  • Team Leadership: Manage a diverse team including Nutrition & Environmental Services, Purchasing, Facilities, IT, Health Records, Laboratory Services, Diagnostic Imaging, and support areas.
  • Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in areas such as Business Administration, Healthcare. Masters level education and CHE certification are strong assets.
  • At least 5 years of senior leadership experience in a healthcare environment, demonstrating a track record of effective management and organizational leadership.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading significant system transformation initiatives and operational management.
  • A strong financial background in the healthcare sector, particularly in understanding funding models (CPA is not necessary but is considered an asset.)
  • In-depth knowledge of government relations and advocacy, particularly in the healthcare sector, with an ability to navigate and influence policy decisions.
  • Exceptional skills in both verbal and written communication, coupled with strong interpersonal capabilities.
  • Proven experience in managing and motivating large, diverse teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and inclusive problem-solving.
  • Strong experience in building and maintaining partnerships with Indigenous communities, demonstrating cultural sensitivity, understanding, and respect.
  • A forward-thinking strategic mindset with the ability to develop and implement long-term visions for organizational culture, business processes, and strategic direction.
  • About Lake of the Woods District Hospital:

    Founded in 1897, LWDH provides services to approximately 35,000 residents of the City of Kenora and a large surrounding area, including several First Nations Communities. The population served by LWDH expands to over 70,000 in the summer months due to the influx of summer residents and tourists to the area.
    The healthcare team is made up of a wide range of dedicated, expert individuals who are committed to providing the best possible treatment. There is a 24-hour helicopter service available, and there are helipads on 5 First Nation reserves and 5 district communities.

    LWDH currently operates 71 acute care beds, providing services in Maternal and Child Health, General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, Palliative Care, Pediatrics, Schedule 1 Psychiatry, and ICU. LWDH offers both inpatient and outpatient Surgical Services and accepts referrals to these services through the Regional Surgical Services Network and central intake for the Regional Surgery Program. A broad range of Ambulatory Services are offered including Dialysis, Chemotherapy, Diagnostic Imaging, Regional Laboratory, a sexual assault, and domestic violence program, and a diverse Rehabilitation program including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Adult Speech Language Pathology. LWDH also has an Ambulatory Care Centre which hosts a broad range of visiting specialist clinics that provides accessible access to patients not only from Kenora but from the entire Kenora / Rainy River District.

    In addition to traditional hospital services, LWDH also administers several Outpatient Mental Health and Addictions Programs, including a mobile RAAM clinic. The Morningstar Centre operates a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services including alcohol withdrawal and support programs as well as a regional Managed Alcohol Program.
