Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at Enterprise Square.

Working for the Associate Vice President, Enterprise
The Associate Vice President, Enterprise (AVP-E) leads the strategic partnerships office (SPO). The Strategic Partnerships Office will provide a clear point of entry to the University for industry and community organizations.

The office will create a seamless client-focused experience for university partners looking to identify and develop strategic, multi-faceted university relationships; as well as provide advice to and connections for internal stakeholders looking to build relationships with individual companies and organizations, or industry/community sectors to develop large-scale initiatives.


Position


The Director, Partnerships, works in the Strategic Partnerships Office (SPO) alongside one more Associate Director, and reports to the Associate Vice-President, Enterprise.

The Strategic Partnerships Office identifies and creates strategic partnerships with industry for the University of Alberta, both internationally and domestically, that bring high-value, revenue-generation opportunities to the University of Alberta, simultaneously advancing the institution's education, and research & innovation strategic imperatives.


The Director helps the SPO act as a one-stop-shop for industry providing companies a one-stop-shop, helping them connect to relevant U of A research groups, creating workforce development programming, and help with accessing our facilities.

The Director will identify high-value opportunities for partnership for the U of A, assessing and triage incoming opportunities, working closely with various other units/offices on campus.


Duties

  • Engage with a diverse range of external agencies to forge strategic partnerships that align with the University's goals.
  • Coordinate with various university offices to cultivate interdisciplinary opportunities and strengthen universitywide initiatives with external partners.
  • Lead the development and delivery of programs that equip University of Alberta members with best practices in partnership development.
  • Facilitate critical dialogue and decisionmaking processes that prioritize, maintain, and expand our partnerships, ensuring they meet both strategic and tactical needs.
  • Position the Strategic Partnerships Office as the central access point for new industry partners seeking to leverage the University of Alberta's research, educational, and training capabilities, as well as campus facilities.
  • Efficiently manage incoming opportunities by collaborating with key campus offices and units.
  • Oversee strategic discussions with major economic development agencies in Edmonton and Alberta, including Edmonton Global, Edmonton Unlimited, Global Affairs Canada, Invest Alberta, and Invest Canada.
  • Organize and ensure a highlevel presence of the University at significant industry events, both locally and internationally, by coordinating initiatives such as the President's Business Roundtables on international platforms and representing the U of A at major conferences like the Canadian Hydrogen Convention and the Global Energy Show.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Postgraduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional designation.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with scientists and administrators in an advanced research setting. Extensive professional background in business development, including a strong network of industry and government clients, both locally and internationally.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate
