About the Opportunity:


Under the direction of the Provincial Manager — Health Promotion, the Health Promotion Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion initiatives across the life-span.

These initiatives will be desigied to reduce the harms and injuries associated with substance use, gambling and to promote mental wellness and health equity.

Working as part of a diverse team, the Health Promotion Specialist must have advanced knowledge of health promotion strategies and theories, population health approach, harm reduction, and the social determinants of health.


About You:


  • Bachelor's degree in Health Promotion or Health Education required
  • Minimum 1 year related experience utilizing health promotion framework to inform policy changes and to develop programs aimed at promoting health, preventing disease, enhancing population health outcomes
  • Background and experience in research methods, policy development, analysis and critical appraisal including awareness of evidence informed decision making
  • Strong analytical ability to interpret data and convey results in a way that is meaningful to key audiences
  • Knowledge of local community resources
  • Experience in facilitation, project management, planning, problemsolving and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Windows & Microsoft Office Suite Package with superior skills in in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook programs
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, manages time efficiently, adheres to timelines, follows team and individualized work plans, and prioritizes tasks.
  • Nonviolent crisis intervention, Mental Health First Aid, CPR/Standard First Aid
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and appropriate insurance coverage is required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours:


  • Long Assignment Part Time (60%) position; 42 hours biweekly
  • Approximately 18 months
  • Some travel throughout the zones may be required

Compensation and Incentives:

$ $40.22 hourly
