JOB SUMMARY:


Provides resident-focused service in the Long Term Care Home by monitoring the Food Services department including assisting the role of Nutrition Manager as required, which includes training of staff, scheduling, inventory and other functions.

Responsible for maintaining resident nutritional care plans and meeting the nutritional needs of residents within the home. Actively involved in the multi-disciplinary teams within the Homes. Works according to and maintains all applicable standards, acts and governing bodies.


QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION:


  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Twoyear postsecondary program accredited by Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) in Food Service Nutrition Management, or a program evaluated by the CSNM to meet these requirements
  • Must be a current member of The Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM)
  • A current Safe Food Handling Certificate as required by legislation/Act
  • Additional related training or education such as gerontology, nutrition, sanitation, etc. are assets

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum one (1) year current, related experience, preferably in an institutional or long term care geriatric setting
  • Experience providing functional guidance, training and/or overseeing the work of others, and participating in the delivery of food services to residents
  • Experience with and knowledge of clinical nutritional documentation
  • Good knowledge of kitchen operating procedures, food storage to ensure safety, quality and sanitation standards are met following Public Health and applicable regulations
  • Safety and fire regulation awareness
  • Must have a clear understanding of relevant policies, procedures, legislation, regulations, guidelines and best practices applicable to the longterm care and food service sectors, such as Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating, International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI), Fixing Long Term Care Act, Public Health regulations etc.
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and communicate in English

SKILLS:


  • Working cooperatively with staff, effectively supervising in the absence of the Nutrition Manager
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, family and residents
  • Ability to adjust menus/recipes as required while assisting/completing the process of planning/implantation of new menus and individual menus for residents based on therapeutic diet needs
