GENERAL SUMMARY


The Electrical Maintenance Technician (EMT) is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all electrical equipment in the power plant and the associated facilities.

The EMT performs work of high skill in the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems.

The EMT is also responsible to support the Millwright on days as required.


PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • The following is a general list of job functions. As the plant is organized under a "team concept", it should be noted that certain functions that are not on the list below may be required to be performed by the employee._
  • Maintain all electrical and electronic equipment in good working condition and monitor their performance to forecast possible equipment failures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems as well as emergency backup, UPS and battery systems
  • Maintain protection and controls systems up to and including 115KV
  • Monitor and inspect 115 KV transmission line and right of way.
  • Calibrate protective relays for the facility
  • Forecast, inventory, and reorder spare parts to maintain plant reliability.
  • Prepare and execute capital expenditures
  • Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
  • Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager with the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process, as required. Help complete the Management of Change process on new equipment when required. Assist with the creation and tracking of open action tasks for all Event Summary Reports (ESRs). Support insurance audits and the completion & tracking of open action tasks related to insurance requests.
  • Interface with the IESO, HONI, ESA, and our Customer with regards to the Energy Savings Agreement (ESA), and other organizations as required.

Also, to provide support to ensure regulatory compliance and update and revise standards as required with the various authorities including the IESO-NERC, ESA & MOL.


  • Inspect repair, install and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries.
  • Inspect and repair gas and steam turbine generator electrical equipment.
  • Locate and repair failures in electrical circuits and equipment.
  • Install test apparatus on all electrical equipment.
  • Create complex electrical wiring and schematic diagrams as required.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic mechanical controls and plant electrical systems, including breakers, transformers, motors, power cables, power supplies, control wiring, and control systems.
  • Perform generator rotor tests: alternating current (AC) impedance and direct current (DC) resistance.
  • Hook up and operate various electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, transistor checkers and troubleshoot and repair printed circuit cards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits such as battery load board indicator and protective circuits.
  • Read various electrical meters including ammeters, voltmeters, wattmeters, multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Organize technical data and complete appropriate report forms.
  • Analyze and interpret a wide variety of technical test data.
  • Troubleshoot electrically operated solenoids.
  • Support Instrumentation, Electrical and Control Technician as required.
  • Ensure safety and quality is part of every task personally performed or those tasks performed by other employees or vendors under your direction. Make safety recommendations to the General Manager or the Joint Safety Committee. Serve as a committee member on the JHSC when required.
  • Recommend the necessary vendors for the purchase of parts or services necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the plant. Fill out the necessary purchase requisition forms. Supervise vendor work as necessary.
  • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition. Participate in a plant wide cleanup and preservation program on a routine basis.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Maintenance Manager

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
The EMT operates from established and well-known procedures under minimum supervision performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within prescribed operating and casualty procedures and guidelines. The EMT encounters recurring work situations of high complexity, with occasional variations from the norm.


The EMT must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, and in compliance with all environmental permits at all times.
