) Manager, Simulation and Experiential Learning. This position is responsible for planning and implementing the major programs of simulation and experiential learning in the management and overall flow of operations in theses spaces. The primary responsibilities include management of the School of Health Science's simulation and experiential learning spaces, coordination of simulation across programs, future planning, marketing, business development and planning and guiding use of the simulation and experiential learning spaces for education. The manager will report to the Associate Dean with responsibilities for preparation of the budget, procurement planning, consumable procurement, ensuring equipment is maintained and functional, schedule planning and supervision of the simulation technical and support staff. As a member of the management team, this position will contribute to the School's operational and strategic planning, and act as the liaison for both internal and external stakeholders concerned/involved with simulation activities.

Simulation is a technique and pedagogy using one or more typologies to promote, improve, or validate a participant's progression from novice to expert (INACSL Board of Directors, Simulation consists of multiple typologies including:

unfolding case study, standardized patients, high/medium/low fidelity simulation and virtual simulation, all of which engage students in active learning within a situated context (Alinier, 2007).

RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides leadership and oversight to the operations of the simulation learning spaces:

Management

  • Actively participates in planning and communications between programs to coordinate simulation and experiential learning across programs.
  • Develops budget and monitors salary and nonsalary expenses.
  • Participates in the development of capital equipment purchases including RFI and RFP development, vendor meetings and selection.
  • Collaborates with faculty, reviews existing and recommends new policies and procedures for effective simulation activity operation and usage.
  • Researches, reports on, develops and implements new business opportunities for optimizing simulated learning space utilization.
  • Assesses quality, safety, or staffing concerns and addresses and rectifies on a timely basis.
  • Represents BCIT and participates in provincewide simulation collaboration efforts and represents the institute in national professional organizations.
  • Provides recommendation to the Dean and Associate Deans on developing and sustaining leading edge simulated learning experiences and spaces.
  • Partners with BCIT Foundation and vendors to secure capital equipment donations.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection and management of simulation lab support and technical staff.

Business Development and Planning

  • Develops effective plans for marketing simulations and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Implements those plans in the targeted areas that are listed within the operational plan.
  • Establishes and maintains effective liaison with health authorities, other government agencies and maintains effective working relationships with other colleges and universities.
  • Develops educational business for BCIT in the targeted areas.
  • Manages assigned simulation and experiential learning projects or initiatives to ensure successful delivery.
  • Works closely with BCIT schools and departments to identify current and future simulation and experiential learning.
  • Establishes a system to ensure prospective leads are followed up.
  • Explores project opportunities.
  • Recommends proposals to be submitted, writes proposals in compliance with terms of reference and develops budgets, contract, (terms and conditions working closely with the Dean).
  • Schedules, tracks, and implements for completion; ensures that all planned activities are undertaken and within established timelines.

Technical

  • Works with faculty and support staff to develop new and improved tracking systems for supplies, equipment, student capacity and lab utilization.
  • Partners with IT, AV and other service areas to ensure optimally functioning equipment.
  • Works closely with external technical experts and maintenance technicians and ensures optimum operating environments for faculty and students.
  • Assists in the collection and review of data to evaluate simulation programming.
  • Responsible for maintaining/assisting with related databases, software and programs.
  • Resolves time sensitive scheduling and inventory acquisition issues effectively.
  • Troubleshoots organizational issues related to simulation set up, overall cleanliness and equipment operations through visual inspection, communications with staff and faculty, and redeployment of equipment/supplies to meet unexpected needs.
