As the Authorizations Specialist - Land and Water, you will work in a variety of settings and provide professional advice and may make decisions regarding the allocation of resources and adjudication of resource authorizations for the Natural Resource Sector.

Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in a natural resource management field (e.g., resource management, biology, forestry, geography, or environmental science); OR, a Diploma in a resource management field; OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Related experience working in natural resource management.
  • Experience in consulting, negotiating and resolving conflicts with stakeholders/partners in natural resource management.
  • Experience with natural resource management theories, legislation, practices, concepts and processes.
Preference may be given for one or both of the following:

  • Registered (or immediately eligible to register, within six months of employment) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in BC with the College of Applied Biology.
  • One (1) or more years of recent (within the past three (3) years) experience, and working knowledge related to Water Sustainability Act Section 10 and 11 Approvals and Section 11 Notifications or Land Act authorizations.

Provisos & Willingness Statements:

  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence (or equivalent).
  • Willingness to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air, or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

About this Position:

This position is located in Port Alberni, BC.
This is a temporary opportunity until March 31, 2024; this may be extended or become permanent.
Lesser qualified applicants may be considered, but at a lower classification level.

We offer flexible work arrangements, including the opportunity to volunteer to telework (with conditions) as set out in applicable employer policies.
