Compensation:
Level 1 Assistant Supervisor$27.08/hour (inclusive of Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant) or dependent upon current Assistant Supervisory level at Schoolhouse


The Organization


Schoolhouse Playcare Centres of Durham is a non-profit licensed childcare operator serving children from years of age across Durham Region.

We offer full-day childcare, before and after-school programs, non-instructional school day programming and licensed summer camps.

The Position

Reporting to the Supervisor, the Assistant Supervisor is responsible for supporting and leading the day-to-day operations of the Centre, ensuring management practices that reflect the philosophy of the organization, that promote quality early childhood education and care, that provide a safe and supportive work/play environment, that promote positive relations with families and partners, and that demonstrate sound financial management processes.


Responsibilities:


  • To provide support and leadership to the delivery of a curriculum that supports children's learning and adheres to the philosophy of the organization
  • To adhere to, and role model, all applicable legislation, and regulatory requirements and SPC specific policies and procedures
  • To consistently model professionalism, and establish good working relationships between the organization and the community
  • To develop and maintain positive, supportive, and professional relationships with families while respecting their unique needs
  • To coach, motivate, guide, provide feedback and manage the performance of educators
  • To maintain a physically and emotionally safe workplace through adherence to all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, planning and program facilitation skills
  • Ability to coach, train and develop team members and positively lead the team
  • Excellent collaboration and team skills
  • Effective conflict resolution and problemsolving skills
  • Professional work ethic and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Enthusiastic, positive, and fun
  • College Diploma or University Degree in Early Childhood Education, and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Minimum of 2 years of RECE experience, supervisor designate experience an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to support early learning programs reflective of current research, best practices, and inquirybased learning
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with families, children, colleagues, and external agencies
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member
  • Sound knowledge of Child Care and Early Years Act, How Does Learning Happen? ELECT and the Durham Region Operating Criteria
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Office Center, and Microsoft Outlook
