Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario's electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario's future electricity needs.

This is a unionized position that falls within the Indigenous Relations Division in the Corporate Relations, Engagement and Strategy Business Unit.

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

Promote and advance the implementation of IESO's Corporate Indigenous Peoples Policy and Indigenous Engagement Framework.

Support and implement processes to enable IESO employees to understand the unique legal, historical and cultural significant of Indigenous peoples.

Directly oversee all work within the Indigenous Engagement business unit as part of the relationships function, including performing human resource management responsibilities and supporting performance and development.

Facilitate the process and content of engagement with Indigenous communities in order to foster cooperative and sustainable working relationships

Work with team members to develop results-based objectives, deliverables, and targets for building relationships, and supervise performance measurement related to this function.

Identify opportunities to build, enhance, or improve relationships with Indigenous communities that align with the IESO's reliability and affordability objectives

Undertake risk analysis, evaluate considerations and options, develop recommendations, and design implementation plans for new initiatives that will advance relationship goals.

Develop strategies to manage IESO's relationship-building efforts with Indigenous leaders and government, including leveraging the Indigenous Energy Support Program to help advance these relationships.

Provide strategic advice to IESO lines of business regarding the delivery of Indigenous community engagement and outreach. Supervise this work along with other related relationship-building activities and special projects.
Support the development of briefings for internal stakeholders, Executives and the Board
Report on the implementation of the Indigenous Energy Support Program
Oversee contract administration matters regarding the Indigenous Energy Support Progra

Demonstrate strong financial due diligence and risk management in the supervision of office budgets, funding agreements, procurement contracts, and in recommendations to senior management on new costs.

Provide expert advice on the design and delivery of Indigenous-specific conservation measures and programs.

In support of IESO initiatives and activities work with Indigenous communities and organizations in the early stages of planning and procurement development as required.

Ensure appropriate participation and communication with government ministries and agencies regarding Indigenous communities and organizations.
Represent the IESO at conferences, events, community meetings, and IESO-led engagements.
Prepare reports and correspondence and make presentations as required internally and externally in support of the IESO.

Perform other duties as required. This position requires frequent travel throughout Ontario.

To Succeed In This Role, You'll Need

Education & Knowledge

Knowledge of public policy and administration, business administration, and financial management.
Typically acquired through undergraduate studies in a related field OR through equivalent, directly relevant experience.
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of undergraduate studies in a related field. However a degree in a related field is not a requirement if this knowledge is acquired through related experience.
Experience


Proven experience in:
Project management
Contract management
Relationship management
Supervising and guiding staff or contractors

A combined period of over 8 years, and up to and including 10 years, is considered necessary to gain this experience.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a large and diverse group of Indigenous communities and organizations .
Experience gained through community engagement, direct relationship-building with leaders, and maintaining detailed records for strategic planning.
Specialized Expertise

Strong understanding of the goals of Indigenous people in Ontario and how they relate to the energy industry.

A comprehensive understanding of government and corporate policies related to funding agreements, procurement, and spending activities—particularly when working with Indigenous communities and organizations with varying levels of capacity.

Advanced project management capabilities, including the ability to lead initiatives, manage risks, and track progress against deliverables.
The ability to work in a busy environment with competing priorities with limited supervision.
Frequent travel may be required with a valid Drivers licence is necessary.

Interpersonal & Cultural Competence
Deep appreciation for the unique cultures, experiences, and existing relationships with each Indigenous community or organization.
Ability to work respectfully, collaboratively, and effectively within this context while delivering on commitments.
