Education and Industry Liaison Strategist. This position is responsible for assisting the Director to raise awareness and understanding of BCIT's applied research capabilities and activities inside BCIT, and with outside partners, clients, and potential clients, in order to contribute to the ongoing success of BCIT applied research activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As part of the Applied Research Liaison Office (ARLO) team which includes the Director, this position is responsible for the following:

  • In conjunction with the ARLO team, the incumbent works with various areas within Applied Research to implement new marketing/promotion activities.
  • Develops creative concepts, strategies and processes that align with operational and strategic plans as they pertain to marketing and promotion objectives.
  • Gathers and analyzes applied research related statistics for operational and strategic projects.
  • Conducts interviews with stakeholders, clients and external customers to support and/or enhance the promotion of applied research activities and initiatives at BCIT.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of products and services, bringing forward recommendations and feedback to the Director which supports the development and successful implementation of marketing strategies, communication practices and research techniques while assisting in the development of appropriate courses of actions
  • Primary liaison with BCIT's Marketing and Communications department to promote applied research activities.
  • Develops story ideas for internal and external publication articles including conducting interviews, writing, final editing of articles to enhance Applied Research's operational and strategic goals
  • Designs, writes, tests and maintains the content and design for the BCIT Applied Research website and various social media channels such as Applied Research Blog, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Ensures quality assurance guidelines are met relating to web development, usability and accessibility.
  • Undertakes the planning, facilitation and implementation of marketing events, workshops and related activities to showcase and promote Applied Research within BCIT, and to BC industry and business.
  • Organizes, promotes and implements the annual BCIT Student Innovation Challenge competition to encourage students to adopt an innovative and entrepreneurial stance in their careers, and to help students turn their new ideas into practical reality.
  • Initiates and organizes involvement in campus events such as new employee orientations, PD Day, Open House, and Big Info to ensure that Applied Research is well represented and promoted.
  • Monitors the production of marketing materials to ensure consistency and appropriateness.
  • Independently or in conjunction with other ARLO team members, develops Web pages, graphics, video and blogs that support Applied Research at BCIT.
  • Proactively seeks out successful applied research stories involving BCIT and liaising with the ARLO team develops and publishes these stories in the various media resources.
  • Establishes and maintains positive partnerships within Applied Research, including various levels of staff within BCIT.
  • Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies, and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).
  • Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:


  • Grade 12 plus Diploma in Marketing and/or Communication, or equivalent postsecondary education with and emphasis on marketing and communications courses.

Experience:


  • Two years' general marketing experience plus up to four years' current relevant experience in a similar/related job.

Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise:


  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel and PowerPoint.

Communication Skills:


  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work within a team environment and adhere to strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of professionalism in order to meet the clients/customer needs.

Administrative Skills:


  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate events, strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be detailoriented.
