NEW FACILITY OPENING SEPTEMBER 2023


Beacon is hiring for a brand-new purpose-built low barrier supportive housing facility for youth participants aged The Meares building will provide wraparound 24/7 support for 48 participants who are precariously housed or experiencing homelessness.


The goal of Meares is to use a collaborative, strength-based perspective that recognizes the individual skills, talents, and needs of our residents.

In collaboration with community resources, Meares will provide life and living skills, two meals a day and a safe and welcoming environment to help give youth a stable home.


We are seeking passionate, community minded individuals to join our team and set the foundation for youth to enter self-sustainable, independent housing when it is their time to exit the program.

***: Reporting to the Manager of Meares St, the Meares Program Coordinator will work closely with community resources to plan programming and build a calendar that includes activities such as yoga, painting, and book club. They will build strong relationships with volunteers and community resources to develop and implement programming that enhances the lives of participants in the building. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Create and implement young adult centered programming that is supported and informed by participants, staff and management
  • Create and maintain professional relationships with the youth, community, and all stakeholders
  • Collaborate with community organizations to bring in appropriate programming
  • Orient, oversee and schedule volunteers and other program facilitators
  • Empower volunteer and other group facilitators by providing resources, support and assistance to them as needed
  • Create monthly calendar with kitchen staff and management
  • Manage day to day program operations including assisting group facilitators with set up, client sign in and 1 on 1 support
  • Research opportunities to provide new supportive programming
  • Maintain all database entries to record volunteer hours, program attendance and information necessary for annual outcome reports
  • Build relationships with participants to encourage program engagement
  • Perform other relevant job duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 1 year experience developing and supporting programs
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Understanding of issues related to mental health needs and addictions
  • Experience with harm reduction, client centered theory and practice
  • Familiarity with Youth Services in the Greater Victoria area.
  • Level 1 occupational First Aid
  • Food Safety
  • Naloxone training
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to problem solve, work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, staff and community professionals,
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the impacts of addiction, mental health, homelessness and poverty
  • Extensive knowledge of local community organizations and resources
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals who have multiple barriers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child and youth development.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation model.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and maintain a positive and professional attitude while working in demanding conditions and circumstances
  • Strong knowledge of trauma informed care
  • Ability to kneel to ground to attend to overdoses and other medical emergencies.
  • Physical ability to lift 30lbs, walk up and down stairs and be on feet for substantial time during shifts.
  • Ability to work in building with substances and substance smoke
  • Comfortable working in a pet friendly environment.
