    Description

    Introduction

    The Formulary Management and Exception Drug Status unit determines the array of drugs (formulary) eligible for reimbursement through the provincial Pharmacare program and administers the Exception Drug Status (EDS) program that approves access to drug therapy based on pre-established criteria and within Pharmacare plans and policies. The unit also serves as the primary source of information regarding pharmaceutical products and services in the Department of Health.

  • Must be eligible to be licensed to practice pharmacy in Manitoba
  • Qualifications: Essential:
  • Experience in the area of drug dispensing, clinical consultation, formulary medical research or health science consultation
  • Critical thinking skills to evaluate and recommend policy options in support of provincial drug programs
  • Ability to facilitate ongoing consultations with medical/pharmacy experts, industry professionals, government agencies and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of current jurisdictional trends, legislation, standards of practice and guidelines in the provision of quality pharmacy care
  • Ability to establish and foster partnerships and collaborations with internal and external clients or agencies or stakeholders
  • Written communication skills to prepare research findings, reports, notes, memos, policies and other correspondence
  • Verbal communication skills to effectively articulate ideas to a variety of audience
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple or competing priorities within a tight timeframe
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Desired:
  • Familiarity with the Manitoba Provincial Drug Programs
  • Familiarity with the workings and processes of the Department of Health
  • Duties: The position undertakes ongoing review of various provincial drug formularies based on clinical- and cost-effectiveness and alignment with other pan-Canadian jurisdictions and provides clinical evaluation and professional judgment in the adjudication of complex exception drug status (EDS) requests from medical practitioners. The position also consults with medical experts, researches medical literature, analyzes clinical practices and innovations in other jurisdictions, writes reports and makes recommendations on the feasibility of proposed drug prescribing policies and guidelines as decision-support tools. The successful candidate leads or participates in various committees composed of internal and external stakeholders that deal with drug plan policy issues.
