Do you have a desire to make a difference in the lives of animals? We are currently looking for a dedicated, dynamic, outgoing individual with excellent customer service skills to fill the position of part-time Animal Control Officer.

The Lincoln County Humane Society is located in picturesque St. Catharines, in the Niagara Region.

We are looking for someone who is organized, efficient, can work in a high-paced environment, and is detail-oriented, reliable, is a good problem solver with excellent analytical skills, and is an engaging individual.

Qualifications, Experience, and Personal Attributes

  • Postsecondary education in Police Foundations, Law Enforcement and/or Security (required);
  • Previous experience in a similar position would be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of animal care, animal husbandry and handling;
  • Good command of the English language verbal and written ;
  • Ability to remain calm in situations of an emotional nature;
  • Ability to provide and maintain a clean MVA Drivers Abstract;
  • Ability to provide and maintain a clean Police Clearance Certificate;
  • Valid Class "G" driver's license;
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and cover afterhours emergency calls.
Responsibilities/Duties

  • Responds to at large domestic animals and wildlife calls;
  • Rescues animals in situations other than investigations;
  • Enforces municipal bylaws, issues offense notices, laying provincial offense information;
  • Keeps an accurate notebook with details of all calls made;
  • May testify in court or at hearings when required;
  • Seizes and impounds animals found running at large;
  • Serves municipal orders, notices, and warnings;
  • Deals with the public in a tactful and courteous manner;
  • Educates the public regarding responsible pet ownership;
  • May be required to euthanize animals;
  • Transports animals to veterinary hospitals, shelters, and wildlife facilities;
  • Communicates through a radio dispatch system;
  • Works with other agencies (police, fire, municipal enforcement officers) in a cooperative manner;
  • Operates and maintains a Society vehicle in a safe and professional manner, reporting any damage or mechanical problems immediately;
  • Follows policies and procedures set out by the Society and reports all hazardous situations and incidents to his/her immediate supervisor immediately;
  • Works in a safe manner and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
  • May perform Animal Care duties as required including cleaning kennels, adoption of animals, answering phone calls, etc.
  • Other duties as required

  • Requires the ability to pick up and remove all sizes and types of animals
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Exposure to distressed and/or aggressive domestic and wild animals
  • Dealing with the public under a variety of circumstances
  • Fastpaced environment

Job Types:
Part-time, Permanent

Part-time hours: 24-32 per week


Salary:
From $18.90 per hour
