Strategic Account Manager, The Maritimes


The Strategic Account Manager (SAM) - Maritime role achieves or exceeds territory sales targets as established by the Strategic Account Lead (SAL).

The SAM represents Bayer Crop Science in all key day-to-day business activities required to plan, sell, and forecast Bayer products.

They champion Bayer as the leading manufacturer for innovation, technology and stewardship for Seeds, Traits, and crop protection in agriculture.

Utilizing strong business administration, the SAM role implements programming, pricing, and promotion of the full Bayer portfolio of seed and crop protection with retail partners, while supporting Bayer's digital farming strategy.

SAMs will continuously manage and report sales and resource consumption progress to their SAL and required business colleagues.

This role also generates demand directly with key grower customers, as well as enable retail sales staff to promote and recommend the Bayer portfolio.

This is a permanent, home-based position based out of agricultural areas within either New Brunswick, PEI, or Nova Scotia.


What you will do:


Sales and Business Support

  • Serve as key point of contact and account management for retail partners in a territory. The primary purpose is to enhance the overall sales and profitability of Bayer Crop Science (BCS).
  • To exceed territory budgets for sales through trusted business advice to the owner and / or other senior managers
  • Maximize return on expenditures through the analysis of expenses and prioritization of opportunities
  • Using FieldView, position and support Bayer Seed, Trait, and Row Crop Crop Protection (CP) portfolio while delivering tailored agronomic solutions to growers and retail to meet or exceed territory targets
  • Create annual territory business plan for communication/alignment with the greater team on activities to prioritize support for the success of the business
  • Leverage grower discretionary budgets
  • Communicate, review and coach dealers on all BCS marketing letters and programs for BCS seed and Crop Protection
  • Complete reconciliations to verify retail/dealer payments.
  • Key contact for retail/dealer credit estimates, approvals, and management
  • Develop, promote, and deliver customized marketing programs to maximize sales for selected dealers while maintaining confidentiality
  • Explore additional business opportunities (product and organizational) within the territory to maximize Bayer's position

Product Support:


  • Manage and track product supply allocated for dealers to maximize sales and minimize inventory of all allocated and nonallocated products
  • Work closely with SAL to communicate on product deliveries according to phasing schedule to meet BCS monthly sales targets.
  • Primary responsibility for assigned growers and first line of contact for all technical inquiries coming from retail with support from Technical Solutions Advisor (TSA) where needed
  • Support all Row Crop CP product inquiries
  • Support all seed product performance inquiries
  • Execute field scale testing programs which include testing of commercial Bayer Seed products
  • Work with Technical Solutions Agronomist to plan entry lists, trial numbers and locations to categorize and validate key product features and benefits for support material
  • Support and planning with growers to plant trials, collect required data, maintain trials as needed, and harvest trials
  • Data management, quality review and timely submission of trial results using Commercial Trialing Tool

Technical support and training for strategic retail partners

  • Work with Bayer commercial team to achieve local business objectives through technical support and training
  • Infield and classroom agronomic training for key retails
  • Proactively support retails for grower demand events and other facetoface promotional activities

Build profile as technical expert in territory

  • Build presence with key growers, retails, and 3rd party consultants
  • Participate in industry events and organizations where appropriate
  • Create awareness with digital media as a technical expert for corn, cereals, and soybean production

Compliant with Bayer safety, driving policies and manage summer students

  • Complete safety and driving training as required
  • Report injuries and accidents as required
  • Coordinate and participate in required safet
