Human Services Representative

Human Services - Income and Social Supports

CUPE LOCAL 966

Status:1 Contract Full Time up to 12 Months**
Salary Range: $55,113 to $64,769 per annum**
Work Mode: Onsite

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Income and Social Supports provides Peel residents with the supports needed to help navigate and access income and stability supports to enable self-sufficiency and improved quality of life.

We deliver an efficient, inclusive and people-focused social assistance program and provide people with a range of services and supports to respond to their unique needs to enable employment opportunities and independence.


What you will do in this role:

  • Assume role of the first line contact with Region of Peel clients and visitors for all matters pertaining to client service
  • Making referrals and connecting clients and the general public to community agencies and resources
  • Provide information, forms and/or documents pertaining to Regional programs and services
  • Assist clients with tenant leases and determine potential eligibility for subsidy for social housing
  • Assess client needs to determine resolution to financial, employment, housing and childcare issues-
  • Update all applicant changes reported via Peel Access To Housing Annual Updates; building selection forms; relevant applicant changes; etc.
  • Provide information such as case activity, payment information, appointments, waitlist status, housing options, emergency services, childcare services
  • Provide support to visitors/clients who access computers and assist with resources within the reception and employment area i.e. faxes, photocopying, printing, etc.
  • Maintain database of clientele utilizing resources in the Employment Resource Centre for funding purposes
  • Access and update various technologies such as Centralized Booking System, Social Assistance Technology, CMS Database (lotus based system), Ontario Child Care Management System, and Microsoft Outlook
  • Respond to Tier 2 calls from the Customer Contact Centre
  • Diffuse difficult situations and deal effectively with clients who may be confused, angry or upset

What the role requires:


  • Post secondary education with a degree/diploma in a Human Services or a related field
  • May be equivalent to a high school diploma plus 13 years experience in Human Services
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation/policy/procedures including MFIPPA, the Ontario Works/Ontario Disability Support Program/Day Nurseries, Social Housing Reform, and Residential Tenancy Acts
  • Knowledge of all Human Services program areas including Early Learning and Childcare, Financial and Employment, Social Housing and Homelessness

Skills/Abilities:


  • Excellent computer skills including (Word, Excel, Centralized Booking System, Lotus, Social Assistance Technology, Ontario Child Care Management System, MS Office Programs)
  • Strong assessment, administrative and organization skills
  • Good communications/interpersonal skills required
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
