    Description

    The Plemel lab at the University of Alberta is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow to work on a research project on myelin regeneration and rejuvenation. The successful candidate will use single-cell RNA sequencing, animal models of myelin regeneration, and rejuvenation strategies to improve myelin regeneration in mice and people. The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary research team focusing on myelin regeneration, immunology, and MS and how age impacts myelin regeneration. Dr. Plemel is a Canada Research Chair whose group studies how brain macrophages, called microglia, can promote regeneration and damage under different conditions.

    Responsibilities:

    -Planned, directed, and conducted specialized research experiments to understand the biology of myelin regeneration and how it is impacted by age.

    -Use new single-cell transcriptomics strategies to understand how immune cells change with age and stage of myelin regeneration.

    -Conduct myelin regeneration studies using animal microsurgery

    -Collaborate with other members of the Plemel labs to achieve research goals.

    -Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

    -Present research findings at national and international conferences.

    Qualification: Strong written and verbal skills in English are essential, as is the ability to work well in a team environment. We seek someone who is curious, perseverant, organized, and flexible, able to learn new approaches and analyze multidimensional data. Must have a Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Neuroscience, or Immunology and be within the first 3 years since Ph.D. completion.
