    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    To use nursing process in providing patient care. To participate as a member of the Health Care Team and the Nursing Team. As an individual practitioner, to maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice. To maintain nursing records. To perform as a member of the surgical team, including perioperative role and in all services. To perform other related duties as assigned within the RPN scope of practice.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college;
    • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
    • Successful completion of the Operating Room course from an approved program;
    • Minimum of two years experience within the perioperative scrub role within a variety of operating room services required;
    • Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO;
    • Current B.C.L.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation Standards;
    • Proven to have good technical operating room skills that adhere to AORN/ORNAC standards of practice for a scrub nurse role;
    • Proven organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and teaching skills;
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and complete assignments adhering to the Operating Room standards of practice for an RPN in a scrub nurse role;
    • Proven ability to lead peers and educate peers in perioperative nursing skills;
    • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills;
    • Proven ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations;
    • Ability to lift, turn, transfer patients manually and with mechanical aids;
    • Must be able to meet the expected flexibility in scheduling in an Operating Room setting and have the ability to work in order to meet patient care needs in the Operating Room setting;
    • Evidence of continuing education related to the position;
    *Must have satisfactory performance record;

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.

    Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
