Mental Health and Addictions Support Counsellor
Evening and weekend schedule - Classification 111a Level 1-4

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with the skills and abilities to join Marianne's Place team.

Responsibilities include:


  • Support residents in their experiences of violence.
  • Support residents navigating the mental health and addictions services.
  • Act as an advocate, a resource person and provide accompaniment support.
  • Provide individual case management & create plans of care.
  • Provide traumabased interventions and programs, including crisis support.
  • Provide short term counselling and group programming with mental health & substance use focus.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution, safety planning & harm reduction supports.
  • Transition planning including referrals to communitybased agencies to ensure continuity of support.
  • Perform administrative, security and maintenance; specific to the shelter program.
  • Post secondary degree or diploma in mental health & addictions counselling, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 13 years previous counselling experience in mental health and addictions/substance use.
  • Demonstrated knowledge on the effects of exposure to violence.
  • Demonstrated experience with program planning, development, delivery and evaluation.
  • Specialized training in sexual violence counselling, childhood sexual abuse issues and human trafficking.
  • Specialized knowledge of trauma, mental health and addictions/substance use issues and support needs.
  • Proven ability in crisis intervention, trauma informed approach, harm reduction support and advocacy.
  • Proven ability to work from an antioppressive, antiracist, feminist counselling framework.
  • Experience working in a residential setting.
  • Awareness of rural and cultural barriers women experience.
  • Solid administration and organizational skills, with strong computer competency.
  • Working knowledge of current community resources.
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR and CPIC.
  • Access to a vehicle & second language highly preferred.
  • Fully vaccinated for Covid19.
