    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    According to the updated standards and current scope of practice as set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the policies of Lakeridge Health, you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients whose conditions are stabilized; administer treatments as ordered by physicians and assigned by Patient Care Manager and Patient Care Specialist; observe and enforce infection control principles and aseptic techniques required in the prevention of nosocomial and communicable diseases; flexibility to float between Medical and Medical/Surgical Unit and other related duties as assigned.

    It is an expectation of the successful applicant that they will work between the Medical and Med/Surg units.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
    • Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college
    • Current B.C.L.S.;
    • Updated nursing skills including Aseptic Techniques and Patient Assessment courses with the ability to work within the full scope/range of practice of an RPN;
    • Must have current Medication Certificate with the ability to administer medications to patients;
    • Knowledge and experience in wound care;
    • Proven sound judgement, good observation, tact and empathy;
    • Effective organizational, prioritization, problem-solving and teaching skills;
    • Proven communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and their families, physicians and colleagues;
    • Ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations;
    • Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario;
    • Must have a satisfactory performance record;
    • The ability to physically lift, turn and transfer patients manually and with the assistance of mechanical aids; and
    • Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclustion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
    • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service in this area; and
    • Proven good attendance record with capabilities of maintaining this same standard.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.

    Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
