    Overview

    Term: 3 years

    The Program and Events Manager collaborates with startup companies, University of Waterloo faculties, and external stakeholders to plan and execute Velocity events and programs. The role involves strategically designing and enhancing existing programming and experimenting with new initiatives to support organizational goals.

    Programs and events range from ideation and validation training to innovation challenges and hackathons, as well as showcasing Velocity founders through demo days and investor visits.

    Responsibilities

    Program and Event Strategy and Design

    • Collaborate with advisory, communications, facilities, and programming teams to identify and address Velocity founders' needs
    • Conduct thorough research and design tailored programs for Velocity founders
    • Evaluate program outcomes and initiate necessary changes for optimization
    • Establish connections with internal and external groups for tailored program development
    • Collect feedback from stakeholders for program improvement
    • Develop frameworks for continuous program enhancement
    • Utilize events strategically to advance organizational objectives

    Program Management

    • Create management processes and templates for program replication
    • Develop project charters for clear program execution
    • Manage budget allocation and monitor progress against objectives
    • Secure key stakeholders for program impact

    Stakeholder Collaboration and Management

    • Build partnerships with campus and external stakeholders for innovative programs
    • Facilitate connections between students and industry for meaningful engagements
    • Negotiate partnerships with external organizations for program sponsorship

    Team Management

    • Lead and develop the programs and events team
    • Provide guidance, coaching, and leadership

    Qualifications

    • University degree or equivalent experience
    • Minimum seven years of program and event strategy experience
    • Strong relationship-building skills
    • Managerial experience in events and programming
    • Ability to gather and analyze feedback data
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills
    • Knowledge of local entrepreneurial culture and University of Waterloo community
    • Outstanding presentation, negotiation, and communication skills
    • Ability to create and share a vision effectively
    • Knowledge of Airtable, Calendly, Eventbrite, Asana, and Canva is beneficial
